Bu-ling had been dreaming.

She remembered the things she'd only heard happened to other people. Being ignored more than usual, avoided, pushed around. Some people had even tried to steal her hat full of money. People had done that before, of course -- she was a street performer, it was part of that -- but not this much. Then there had been what she'd heard on the network. Everyone seemed to agree that it was because her ears had changed and she'd sprouted a tail. She loved being like this, but... maybe, she thought, she should go back to normal.

When the emergency message woke her up, she left the still-sleeping An-nin in her room and began wandering the halls in search of monsters. The sleepy little girl hadn't even noticed that her ears were human, nor the lack of a tail swishing behind her.

Isa was sorry. Isa was really, really sorry, he didn't mean it, and he certainly hadn't wanted this.

The first thing he'd thought when the emergency message had sounded had been the entirely irrational, 'Did I do that?'

Now he was a bit more awake, and dressed, and clutching his new claymore while really hoping that he didn't run into anything. But he had to make sure that Lea was all right and hadn't run into anything, because no matter how irrational it might be, Isa knew he'd feel guilty if Lea got hurt.

He'd have preferred that Lea not know about the sword, or the training he'd had, but this kind of thing was exactly what he'd done it all for, so he'd have to suck it up and deal with any potential mocking that might come afterwards.

He made his way slowly down the corridor, hoping to hear any monsters before they saw him so he could avoid them altogether, when he spotted Bu-Ling.

"You should go back to your room," he said, before he noticed anything else.

"Isa-oniichan!" Bu-ling waved up at him. At the suggestion, though, she frowned. "Nope. Bu-ling's gonna fight the monsters."

"Keep your voice down," Isa replied, frowning. The last thing they needed was Bu-Ling's voice attracting any attention.

The last part registered, and he looked at Bu-Ling flatly. "You're too little, and they're dangerous. Don't fight them. Let the grown ups deal with it."

Isa did not, by that, mean the likes of himself. He didn't intend on dealing with it, he just intended on making sure Lea was okay and not off doing something stupid, like going to make sure Isa was okay, or worse, going to see if he could see the monsters.

Some Random Hallway - for Havoc the19thchief January 27 2011, 03:50:42 UTC
After seeing to emergency message, Huang Rong quickly put on a simple outer-robe (the wonderful thing about the layered clothes she wore was that it was hard to tell that she had just slipped a layer over the clothes she had slept in) and pulled her hair into a low ponytail since she didn't have the time to put it up the way she usually did. It may seem like a waste of time, but the last thing she needed if she was going to be fighting was for her hair to get in her face.

She was careful to keep her footsteps light and her senses sharp as she walked down the hall with the Dog Beating Staff firmly in her grasp. If she did run into any monsters, she would hate to be the one who was caught off guard.

Havoc did not bother changing into his uniform (either of them), though he took the time to slip on the handgun holsters over his night shirt and clipping his pack of ammunition around his waist. Satisfied that his pants were easy enough to navigate in, he stored his device carefully into the pack almost as an afterthought.

Still barefoot, he cautiously left his room, making his way down the hallway after picking up his Carbine Rifle. It was probably not the best defense, but he could do much worse.

A faint scuttling sound made Huang Rong stop at a point where two hallways intersected.

It sounded like a bug...a really big bug. Beyond that, the only thing she could really tell from it was that it was close. It was difficult to determine its position because it moved constantly and too quickly, and looking around the hall, she didn't catch sight of anything.

When the sound of scuttling feet turned into silence, she tried to pin-point where its last position might have been...and realized the reason she hadn't seen it before as because the sound was coming from above.

She turned, there on the ceiling was something that faintly resembled a spider, except much larger, and with only one large eye.

She hissed, and drew one foot back. It wasn't to run, but to shift her stance into something more battle-ready.

Something milky white dripped from its fangs as the thin opened its mouth wide and screeched.

Hearing the screech somewhere ahead, Havoc sprinted as quietly as he could to the location of the sound, already pulling his rifle up at the ready position and removing the safety.

He was wary of things sneaking up on him, but if one of the monsters gave away their position... he was not going to waste this opportunity.

[The Infirmary] unsoundmind January 27 2011, 05:11:34 UTC
While such encounters with vicious 'wildlife' were truly fascinating when the monsters were out of what was assumed to be their natural environment, the idea of having a rampaging monster in the Infirmary was not something that much appealed to Hojo. There was a tremendous amount of delicate equipment, both medical and personal, and he had no desire to be left with even less useful apparatus than he was using already, especially when the chances of people ending up injured were so high.

He simply would not tolerate any potential deaths being blamed on medical incompetence if destroyed equipment was the cause.

As such, he had made an effort to keep the infirmary as a sort of Safe Zone by keeping the doors firmly closed. Given their capacity to swing inwards, he had put something sturdy between the handles to prevent this. Anybody wishing to enter would have to knock, or otherwise announce their presence in some way in order to have the doors opened for them.

When the announcement came over the journal system, Ari knew at once what she had to do. Grabbing up her notebooks, she left her quarters and headed for the infirmary. She didn't want to be anywhere near where there might be rampaging monsters if she didn't have either of her azi present, and the infirmary would be the most secure place to wait things out while the ship's resident bruisers took care of the problem.

And speaking of problems, the doors to the infirmary appeared to have been jammed tightly shut. Balling her hand into a fist, Ari rapped sharply on the door. "Damn it, open up!"

Hojo was, of course, waiting for this to happen. Whether it was a coworker or the victim of a monster's claws, he fully expected somebody to come knocking within half an hour. He smiled wryly as he got up from his chair and crossed the room to the door. He slid the doubled-up splints out of the handles and pulled them open to allow Ari in.

"Patience is a virtue, Doctor Emory," Hojo said slickly, tapping the splints against the open palm of his hand.

She would probably notice that he had taken the time to set up something of an 'emergency room'. Bandages and equipment for stitches and cleaning wounds were out and readily available instead of in storage, together with whatever kinds of anaesthetic he had on hand. He didn't seem to have high-hopes for everybody getting out of this situation injury-free.

At last, someone opened the door, and Ari strode calmly into the familiar room. It looked as though her fellow doctor had taken the time to get together emergency supplies, though with luck, they wouldn't need them soon. She hoped that it would be enough to wait things out, and that none of the rest of the crew members would be injured badly enough to warrant disturbing her right now. As far as she was concerned, until a message came through to them on the journals, this was work time, and she was prepared to use it as such.

"And so is humility, Professor Hojo," she snapped as she made her way to her research station, brushing a loose strand of hair back behind her ear. "But I don't see a damned lot of that around here, either."

Hallway, near the grand ballroom thewayfindsyou January 28 2011, 02:11:03 UTC
In the several minutes that had passed following the alert, Komamura had put together a better idea of what the ship was encountering. "Monsters" was an ambiguous word, but he was doubtful that it should apply here. Not conventionally, at least. While these creatures physically resembled those that could be found in the badlands, they were something else entirely.

He met one of them near his quarters. It had him attacked on sight, and after he cut it down it...changed, somehow. What should have been a body was a framed painting. Not unlike those on exhibit in the ballroom. Inconclusive as the single incident might have been, it was for that reason that the demihuman made his way towards the ballroom now.

Mii was out the door and into the hallway the moment he heard the alert, leaving behind a mess of oily cloths and worn cogs on the bed he had been performing his routine maintenance on.

Ears listening for anyone shouting for help and running, he stopped when he saw the painting. What was a painting doing here? It should have been in the ballroom, right? As part of the exhibit.

Looking away from the painting and down the hallway, he saw a really tall figure making its way towards the ballroom.

"Hey!"

Hm? The demihuman arched his neck. At first he saw nothing, but after a moment he noticed the smaller creature, further down the hall. There were any number of citizens and dignitaries entering and leaving the ship for the event, but this did not look necessarily like one of them. However, it did not appear to be a monster either. At least, not like the one Komamura had faced before, or any that he had seen featured in the exhibit.

He went still. "Who are you?" he asked, plainly.

Up close, the figure was even taller. It didn't seem to want to attack and didn't resemble any monster he had seen before, but Mii didn't let down his guard, just in case.

"I'm Mii," he explained, "The new cook."
