Characters: Sara, Edgeworth Content: Backdated irony. Lots of it. Setting: The grounds of the military academy Time: Five years ago Warnings: Horribleness?
A young man stepped towards the wall, his back straight, his head raised, and his hands folded behind his back. His age was somewhat inscrutable; his voice was deep, but not overly so, and he had both silver hair and the beginnings of lines on an otherwise fresh and youthful face. Not only that, but instead of the cadet's uniform worn by Sara's peers, he instead sported the crisp, tidy uniform of an officer of the Air Navy.
He said nothing further to her, though, and didn't even spare her a second glance. Instead, his attention was focused on the pictures on the wall.
He raised his brow at her clumsiness, before he turned his attention back to the wall. When she commented on her brother, though, he allowed himself a small smile.
"Absolutely!" She may or may not have been giving off sparkles as she smiled and pointed at a portrait of a blond man with short, neat hair. "He's a pilot -- the youngest person in history to fly a Gloire-class, too! I haven't seen him in a long time, but I'm sure nobody's better than Brother."
She nodded, beaming. "Brother's definitely the greatest as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to do my best to get to his level, no matter how hard it is!" She suddenly turned slightly pink and nodded in greeting. "Oh, I'm sorry! I got so caught up in talking about Brother that I didn't even talk about myself. My name's Sara Werec."
Hmn. While Werec did have much to say about his sister, he never said anything about her nervous disposition. How strange. Perhaps it was a phase she would grow out of?
"Hard work will take you far in the military," he said. "However...I would also work on your composure."
Oh, great. She was making a terrible impression. What had happened to her confidence from this morning? Sara's hand went to the necklace tucked under her cravat, and she took a deep breath and looked up.
"I'm sorry," she began. "I didn't mean to. I'll work on that." Personally, she thought she was perfectly fine for the most part, but you didn't just say that.
Edgeworth had no malice in mind when he said that; it was just a simple observation, nothing more and nothing less. Besides, the girl would have to work on her nerves if she were to go far in the military. Still, she straightened up quickly enough, which was impressive in its own right.
"What's done is done," he said with a wave of his hand. He cleared his throat, and said, "Now, do you intend to become a pilot as well, or do you have other goals in mind?"
Is it still shounen if this blows up in their faces?edge_of_honorFebruary 6 2011, 05:26:51 UTC
While her enthusiasm was a bit much, it was almost refreshing. This wasn't some spoiled brat who expected to coast by on her family's good name. No, this cadet planned go through the military by the sweat of her brow and her own achievements. If only more of her peers shared her passion...and her work ethic.
However, hopes and a sense of hard work were nothing without a sense of realism. Did she have that as well?
"You've got quite a name to live up to," he warned. "People are bound to expect more of you than they will other young officers. Are you prepared for that?"

"You must be proud," he said. "Which one is he?"

The man's eyes widened for a brief moment before he crossed his arms.
"Well," he continued, "I don't know if he's the best...but it wouldn't surprise me."

"Lieutenant Miles Edgeworth, at your service." He rose up, and continued, "I have to admit, your brother's said quite a bit about you."

Edgeworth tilted his head up and smiled confidently at her.
"I hope you do your family proud, Miss Werec."
