Content: The Amestris is in Bydan, which is the last thing Katsura wants to deal with. Takasugi has no intention of leaving him alone, however.
Setting: Katsura's room on the Amestris, then in Bydan.
Time: While the ship is in port.
Warnings: Dead sensei-related angst, Takasugi being Takasugi.
Katsura would have paid good money to be anywhere other than where they were right now. Bydan reared itself large and ugly in his past, and try as he might, he'd never been able to put those particular ghosts to rest. Serving on Ivonian ships, he'd always managed to avoid coming back here, but this time, it had been inevitable. Had he somehow been able to take leave before the ship had departed, he would have, but it just hadn't been an option, so he was left to resort to lame excuses he was quite sure no one had actually bought.
Well, it didn't really matter. Half the ship probably thought he was mad already, so a little more 'eccentric' behavior on his part probably wasn't going to hurt his reputation any. And he did trust his fellow crew members to function perfectly well without his contributions for a little while.
Was he being a coward? Undoubtedly. But considering his last memory of the place was being dragged screaming from the town's jail by two agents sent by his father to whisk him back to Ivona, he felt a little cowardice was not uncalled for. Funny, how things changed. Back then, he'd wanted to stay, accept his punishment as though he really belonged to the place the way his compatriots did, and now he couldn't even bring himself to set foot off the ship, hiding in his room like a fool.
There was no changing the past. He could accept it, even embrace it, but if he let it drag him too far down, he'd never be able to do the things he still needed to do. If he had to hide for awhile in order to assure he could keep moving forward, so be it.
