Ukitake headed towards the Amestris's training rooms with a certain amount of trepidation. He didn't want to do things this way - he disliked having to force answer out of people. But he had tried persuasion already to get Rou to open up - all it had done was make the young man even more closed. Something was clearly eating him, and Ukitake knew how things things went if left to fester - problems would get worse and worse, instead of getting resolved.
Souyo no Kotowari's presense at his side was comforting, their firm assurance that yes, this was something that he needed to do. Miles had given him some hint as to what might be bothering him - family problems. Always a tricky thing to deal with. Ukitake had his share of resolving little sibling conflicts growing up, being the oldest - but he knew the squabbles his brothers had were nothing compared to what happened in some families. Dealing with new recruits - to young to know how to hide it all, but old enough to be scarred by it - had taught him that much. Not everybody was as lucky as he had been. Still, to change an energetic headstrong boy into a decidedly more closed and sullen young man - Ukitake hoped it hadn't been anything too bad.
Rou was usually practising this time of day - with any luck, he'd be practising alone. This talk was long overdue. Ukitake sighed slightly and squared his shoulders, before pushing the door to the training room open.
