A normal Hibari Reaction would have been a scoff and a scathing remark - it was how he dealt with most meddling idiots in his life. It was how he stayed on top of things.

Suffice to say, how Hibari reacted next - a scoff that was closer to a sigh and him turning away - was Not Normal.

Yes, it was. It was a nuisance, getting tied down. Feeling. Needing.

A subject change was in order.

"It has been months, has it not? Since we ended things."

"It is a fact, is it not?"

Low and quiet, as the pilot padded himself down for his cigarettes.

"As long as we remember how many times I saved yours."

The smugness, however, did not last for nearly as long as it should have.

"Is it really over, though?"

"He was a part of something bigger."

Hibari would know, of course - he understood, in a way too deep and too complex to explain, how his master had once worked.

"Frankly? No. Unless it surfaces again."

His master was gone: his part in the fight was technically over. But Hibari wasn't about to simply step away from a situation, should it happen to come around.

"I do not know whether it will or it won't."

But he wasn't about to take any chances, nor let himself get caught off-guard. Hibari was likely being paranoid - he knew this. Better that, though, than growing complacent.

And, for the first time in a while, he wasn't sure how to answer. 'Happiness' was not exactly an emotion that he was familiar with, much less something he knew how to deal with properly.

It finally occurred to Hibari, after a good long moment of staring, to put that cigarette to his lips and look for his lighter.
