Content: Penny's clothing suffered from two things. One, Hex's rampage. Two, Mamma deciding that she needed new, more adult attire. Penelo's closet will never be the same.

Finally, Joshua was doing fine trussed up in the infirmary (she trusted a combination of being unable to walk and possibly Ness would keep him out of trouble, more or less) and Mamma was able to take a bit of a break before the ship left Trewe. Lots of traders here, it would be a shame if she didn't get to visit any of them at all.

And, of course, shopping meant dragging one of her favorite pupils along with her--the ship-wide shopping trip could wait until she wasn't so likely to truss more of them up herself out of sheer frustration.

Which was why she gave a quick knock on Penny's door and, not smelling anyone else in there (at that moment), pushed it open. "Ho dere."

"Ack!" Penelo flailed, feeling remarkably like Beat, and fell backwards. She looked up at Mamma and sighed. "You scared me."

Mamma successfully, having had years of practice at it, managed to contain her laughter to not much more than a grin. "Zorry 'bout dot. Hyu'z alright to be doink stuff though, I hope?"

[penny_dancer]

"Yes, of course. Why, did something happen in the infirmary?"

Penelo righted herself and fixed her braids. "Or did Beat do something stupid again?"

Mamma waved a hand dismissively. "Iz nuttink to vorry about. Meester Joshua just got hisself shot oop in de knee, iz all. All taken care ov, no vorry."

"Zo I'z havink a break, und hyu's comink vit me," she grinned.

Whenever Mamma grinned, Penelo worried.

"Where are we going?" she asked, standing. Worried or not, it wasn't like Mamma would do anything too crazy or reckless. Besides, it was always easier to just listen to the Jaegerwoman.

[jaegermamma]

"Ve, hyu mostly but I izn't objectink to addin myself in dere too, iz in need ov supplies," she pronounced.

"Zo, come on, get hyu tings!"

[penny_dancer]

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Penelo grabbed her purse and followed Mamma out of the room. This was going to be...interesting.

Mamma, by this point in her life, expected people to follow when told, but it was still nice when they did so. Sweeping through the halls and over the deck, Mamma led the way into town. "Hyu gotz most ov hyu tings destroyed by dot Hex lady, din't hyu?"

Penelo nodded, rubbing at her wrist where the bracelet used to sit. "Yes, even my little statues and some of my jewelery," she said. "My books made it out okay, thankfully. What about your room?"

[jaegermamma]

"Ho dear, dots no goot. But at least hyu has books." Mamma shrugged at the question concerning her own things, unconcerned. "I'z a jager, dollink. If I din't expect my tings to get destroyed by odder pipple on occashun, I vouldn't haff many tings left, eh?"

"I guess not."

That still didn't answer her question, but it wasn't like Mamma was taking her someplace sketchy. Not that anyplace is sketchy when you have a Jaegerwoman with you.

"But, iz true, I needs a few tings myself. Zum clothes, und zum nize cloth--Hex really did a number on de drapinks." Mamma chatted amiably as they approached what seemed to be the main shopping thoroughfare in town.

[penny_dancer]

"Hex did a number on everything," Penelo pointed out, looking around at the shops. "The drapings, the bedsheets, the floors..." She sighed. "At least the ship wasn't totally destroyed."

[jaegermamma]

"Dot iz true." Bedsheets, hm? Already Mamma was plotting. there were somethings that, while Mamma wouldn't say it was better with them gone, could certainly stand to be updated. "Tink ov eet dis vay: Iz a chance to redo hyu whole room, mek eet oop really nize und all."

With Mamma's advice, of course.

"I guess so." She had liked her room the way it was, but Mamma was right. Redecorating was always fun. "Where to first?"
