Spoons was a fairly small town. The shipping company was the only thing that kept it going, really. It had one school, one police station, one hospital -- but about a dozen warehouses stocked with various goods. It was Warehouse Nine that housed the mana crystals in question, and it was Warehouse Nine the volunteer-guards were stationed around. It stood beside a clear road, situated between Warehouses Eight and Ten. There was little foliage or other cover around besides the other buildings.
It had rained the past week, only letting up the day before the Convoy arrived. The air still held the damp, fresh smell, but the moon was out and shone a clear light on the area. The ground was muddy and soft, perfect for picking up footprints.
Time ticked by slowly. Would the thieves arrive tonight? Would they wait? Only time would tell. The shifts were spread out over the course of the week, with two groups per night in their assigned positions. Each member was equipped with a round torch powered by a tiny mana crystal, which they had been instructed to use to signal the other members of their team if they spotted anything suspicious.
