From the very beginning, Vash had always been the person he liked to bully the most on the Way. In some ways, Vash was the puppy he liked to kick every now and again just to see the expression he made. Joshua had known there'd been something in Vash's past he wanted to hide, and while Joshua would've loved to know what it was, he favoured bullying Vash over probing further.

Perhaps he should've looked into it.

When Joshua entered the infirmary, he didn't greet Vash at first, instead taking the time to openly look him over. Taking a seat beside Vash's bed and crossing his legs, Joshua casually asked him, "Was your left arm victim to your little adventure?"

Vash had started to doze off when Joshua entered, so he hadn't noticed the boy at first. It wasn't until he sat down that Vash cracked his eyelids open, at first giving him a mildly annoyed look. He had already grown wary of Joshua's bullying, to the point that his first instinct was to be annoyed with him in advance. It usually just meant he had to be less annoyed later.

He relaxed a little at the question, though, shaking his head. "Not really. They must've took it off to fix it... uh, my arm's been fake for a long time." Vash was pretty sure most people on the Way hadn't even known that much about it.

Joshua hadn't known about Vash's fake arm. If he'd been the more touchy-feely type, he might have found out by accident, though. Vash's use of the word 'fix' suggested a mechanical arm, rather than an elaborate illusion or something magic based. Joshua kept his eyes on Vash's face. "A relic from the Vash of the past, I take it?"

Joshua wanted to know. He was only guessing right now; it wasn't uncommon for people to have mechanical replacements after accidents, but they did tend to be costly.

"..." Vash thought it over, then frowned. "Are you calling me a relic?"

He knew that wasn't what Joshua meant, but when it came to his arm... he didn't think it was very appropriate to call it a relic, not really. Vash had tried to leave his past behind, but it had only caught up with him anyway. It basically meant his past was now his present... or something like that. It was no good, either way.

Joshua gave Vash an appraising look, seeming quite serious, before he said, "Hmm, now that you mention it, you're quite the old man."

Taking on an even more cheerful tone, he continued, "Did you know some people believe that after 42, whatever karma you created by then catches up to you? If you did kind deeds, the rest of your life would be good. But do something terrible, and you pay for that in the future." He gave Vash a sidelong grin, hand curled by the side of his face. "What do you think?"
