Joshua had given Jinkston a cursory exploration when they'd landed, but didn't have much interest in combing it for information about dear old Magentabeard during the day. A too close encounter with a herd of sheep and Joshua decided he'd wait out the day back on board the Way. Besides, the best poker games often took place at night, and that's what he was waiting for. He was a quite fond of the deck -- it was excellent for people watching -- but today, there was something a little more interesting than usual happening ( ... )

It being as quiet as it could be outside, due mostly to the lack of people, Sai overheard the opening of the door to the deck and the soft footsteps approaching him. Joshua had watched Sai's movements with some curiosity. Either Sai was slightly paranoid, or he'd already been aware of Joshua's presence; there was no abruptness in Sai's movement that would indicate being startled from being in 'another world'. Perhaps a bit of both, since small doses of paranoia often gave a heightened awareness of one's surroundings.

Smiling at the greeting, Joshua indicated the sketchbook with a casual wave of the hand. He kept his tone neutral. "Maybe you should show me that world."

Joshua knew about art. The theory, the proceedures, the history and peoples' relationship with it. University and Mr H. had taught him plenty. But he certainly wouldn't call himself an artist, though he had an appreciation for them.

Sai gave a small, curious tilt of his head. He had taken the gesture as a request to view his art, so he slowly got to his feet and handed the boy the sketch book he was holding. He gave him his usual smile and said, in his soft tone, "Of course, if you wish."

The book was full of sketches, some rough and unfinished, others drawn in very fine detail. However, none of the pictures inside were given a title.

After handing him the sketches, he put away his ink and brush for the time being, storing them in a pouch attached where you'd usually find a back pocket on a pair of trousers.
