Yami looked up at the sound of a woman's heels in the hall just outside the lounge, studied the woman who stopped in view, watched her try to place his face just as he did the same. He turned his notebook over before levering to his feet, one hand cupping briefly over Horus to keep him from toppling out of place.
"That's right," he responded with a nod, offering his hand. "And you?"
He watched a brief flash of reaction cross the woman's otherwise stoic features as her gaze took in the kittens. He showed no signs of noticing, but he couldn't help the mental grin of amusement.

As the other moved to his feet, Tear managed to keep her gaze firmly adhered to the young man, but at the same time, she couldn't help noticing the kitten's tiny shifts of movement. Although her expression and body language didn't outwardly reveal this, she suddenly found it a great deal more difficult to focus on making her response.
"Tear," she answered, accepting his extended hand and giving it a light shake, "Tear Grants." A split-second of silence passed, as she took into account his cast.
"Is your injury recovering well?"

Khnum shifted in the sling, and Yami reached a hand in, semi-permanently oil-stained fingernails scratching behind the kitten's ears.

As Yami's hand reached out to scratch behind the kitten's ears, the quartermaster found her words coming to a noticeable pause, before she abruptly cleared her throat, continuing briskly. "We should be able to meet the Captain's deadline if there aren't any opposing factors."

He nodded. "I'm glad to hear that. I'm hoping to get back to duty before too much longer so I can help with that." He tilted his head at her a bit. "By the way, this is Khnum, and this is Horus." He offered a lopsided grin. "They don't bite . . . yet. I'm still working on that part." And he was obviously joking, making the point that she was welcome to touch and pet them if she'd like, even gesturing the invitation. He'd not push the issue if she turned it down, but he figured he'd make the offer at least.

"Are they from the litter that Raidou found before?" A swift glance back towards him punctuated her inquiry.

Yami nodded. "They are. I took them in shortly before his departure." He looked down at them, fondness in his eyes in spite of himself. "They've been coming along nicely, I'm glad to say. Even in light of the recent dangers." He grimaced a little at that reminder and looked back up at her. "The ghost was identified as a former crewmember, a mechanic by the name of Morris, if I'm not mistaken. Hence his focus on the engine room. I understand it was murder rather than an accident that killed him. Has his killer been identified yet?"
