Of course, as with most things in Rolo's life, just when he thought things couldn't get worse... they did. He hadn't noticed his most unwelcome visitor, but Sync finally made himself known, making the boy freeze in his tracks.

"..." Rolo said nothing at first, practically shaking from the effort to calm himself down. He didn't have energy to use his eye again. He couldn't do anything to Sync at the moment. He had to calm down and get a story straight. That is, if there was even a story to tell.

Oh hell no. Did he... did he see Melissa? Rolo turned around then, making no effort to erase the shock, annoyance, and barely contained rage on his face as he stared at Sync. Was this a set up? Were they working together from the start?

Shit.

"None of your business," Rolo muttered, walking towards his closet and throwing the ruined shirt in the corner, grabbing another one and some bandages. He guessed it was possible that Melissa might have been in league with Sync, but she sounded like she worked alone. Then again, what the hell could he believe from someone who had a million masks and could wear them almost perfectly?

"Get out of my room."

"Don't tell me what to do."

And just like that Sync excused himself into the boy's room, stepping inside to get a better look at the scene of the crime. He kept his face flaccid, looking almost bored as he surveyed the mess lethargically.

"It looks like you were busy earlier," Sync began, holding back a slight that threatened to peak out from the corners of his lips.

"You sure you don't want to tell me what happened?"

And of course, Sync could never just let things go. Rolo turned to find that the green haired teen was closer now, surveying the mess. He really didn't have an idea what happened, did he?

Rolo was not going to tell him about Melissa. Not because he actually gave a damn about keeping her true nature secret, but because the last thing he needed was Sync knowing he had a potential ally.

"Why would I do that?" Rolo just gave Sync a blank stare as he felt behind him, trying to judge how long the wound was. Damnit, if he hadn't cut his hand earlier, he could have gone to the infirmary. Now this just looked suspicious.

"Oh, I don't know," Sync started off as he took a step closer. "You could say that I'm just curious, that's all."

He lazily sidestepped a piece of chicken, effectively shortening the space remaining between them until they were now only a foot or so apart. The teen’s voice remained low, purposely lining his voice with a hint of suspicion as he continued.

"I mean, I saw our new cook a few hallways away. She mentioned something about making you dinner, but it seemed awfully late for her to be out giving you food."

Son of a.

"And? She was thanking me for helping her bring in the groceries earlier. But she got clumsy and fell." That was sort of true, anyway, so Rolo was able to say that. Of course, it still didn't explain why he was injured and he could only assume that Sync saw her wound as well. Otherwise, why would he express interest in this?

Actually, Rolo didn't even have a good explanation for this injury. If Sync had just waited before making himself a nuisance, Rolo could have written this off as an earlier wound, but... goddamnit, what else could he say?!

"Why, what did she say?"

Check.

"Oh really now?" It took every ounce of willpower for him not to grin like an idiot, though even he couldn't hide the slight smirk that poked out. If he hadn't pushed Dahlia to at least be more truthful about her answer then he would've found Rolo's story to be somewhat believable. After all, it was consistent with what she had said at first, though this made him wonder if they devised an excuse together.

He couldn't help but be suspicious of both parties now that he caught sight of the fresh wound on Rolo's shoulder blade, and he was determined to get to the bottom of this now that he caught the latter lying.

"She didn't say anything too surprising. Just that you tried to attack her, that's all."

Rolo paused halfway through unwinding the bandages, staring at Sync dead in the eye. She said what?! This changed everything. He couldn't believe that Melissa was so stupid that she would go and tell Sync what just happened. Oh, he definitely had a new target now.

"Did she? That's really interesting. Does she have any explanation as to why I would do something like that?"

Maybe Melissa thought she could get some people on her side. Hah! Rolo had all the proof he needed, right there on the floor, that she wasn't the innocent one. Hell, if anything, Rolo could claim self-defense. This entire thing was her fault.

Of course, one could claim that Sync was blowing all of this out of proportion, but he knew better than to underestimate Rolo, especially when he knew just what the latter was capable of.

However, what the teen didn't get was why he attacked her in the first place. In fact, he didn't know why she bothered to offer him food this late at night when she could've just done it in the morning. Either she was being stupid, or maybe there was something else he was missing...

"That's an interesting wound you got there," Sync pointed out, sidestepping the teen's question as he rested his hands on his hips.

"Looks pretty fresh too. What happened? Got cut up by a flying shard of glass when she 'fell'?"

Damnit. He couldn't believe Melissa actually told Sync what happened - granted, she obviously left parts of the story out, but it was enough to make Sync suspicious. Did she really think that she could get away with this?

But Rolo still couldn't tell Sync the truth. Not only did he have the feeling that Sync could care less that she bought poisonous seeds in the first place, but at the very worst, Sync and Melissa would realize their mutual hatred for him and ... well, Rolo wasn't sure if he could stand the combined effort of two people trying to bring him down. It might actually work.

But he still needed an excuse. And if Melissa intended to place the blame solely on him...

"What do you think? Do you want to make a guess as to who attacked who first?" Rolo started to wrap said wound up, somewhat clumsily as he tried to bandage up his shoulder and cover the whole wound. "I don't attack people unprovoked, unlike you."

"Oh? So she attacked you too?" Now things were getting interesting.

Yet he couldn't really concentrate when Rolo was doing the most horrendous job with trying to wrap his shoulder. Not bothering to hold back the urge to roll his eyes, Sync quickly closed the distance between them and raised his hand to smack the other teen against the back of his head before snatching the bandages.

"Hold still, you idiot." Unraveling what amount of progress the latter made, Sync began the process of dressing the wound himself, making sure the bandages were tight as he gave them an experimental tug.

"What? You trying to say she was trying to kill you first? How hard is it to put away a few groceries, anyway?"

Rolo was too distracted with the task of actually trying to bandage his shoulder without help, so he hardly noticed when Sync smacked him on the back of the head, almost making Rolo drop the damn thing.

"What the -?!"

And Rolo could only stare in disbelief as Sync took the bandages from him, starting to dress the wound himself. What? Was Sync trying to act nice to get information from him or... for a moment, Rolo wondered if Melissa had gone into his room and poisoned the bandages.

... OK, that was stupid, but it didn't matter, since Sync got the job done rather well in a manner of seconds. Rolo was resisting the urge to rip them off.

"I don't know. She attacked me first, as you can see." Rolo jerked himself away from Sync, gesturing to the bandages he just put on.

"Sync, if it was an accident, I would have taken her to the infirmary by now. I have some decency, you know." He paused, giving his shoulder a frown before looking at Sync again. No, he was sure that no one went into his room. He always kept it locked...

"Thanks, but I don't know why she did it. Ask her, because I'd really like to know." Rolo did know, but he wasn't about to tell Sync that. Better to let Sync think she was just crazy than actually making a calculated effort to kill him.

Sync merely ‘hmph’ed when Rolo jerked himself away from him, letting his arms fall to his sides while he listened to the latter speak. He refused to believe that he knew absolutely nothing about why that woman tried to attack him, but he wasn't going to go about taking his advice.

If her demeanor really was nothing more than a carefully plotted ruse then the last thing he needed was to worry about two people trying to gut him on this ship.

"Anyway, whatever the case is, I can only assume you're smart enough to stay away from her," Sync finally answered back after a moment's thought. He really had no desire to know of the redhead’s intentions as long as she stayed the hell away from him.

"If anyone's going to get rid of you it's going to be me."

Rolo couldn't believe this. Sync was telling him to stay away from Melissa so that he would have the pleasure of offing Rolo himself. For some strange reason, Rolo wondered if this worked out in his favor.

Of course not! He really did have two people trying to kill him, but at least Rolo seemed to have given Sync the impression that Melissa was more than happy to give him the same treatment she had just given Rolo if he crossed paths with her. At least he didn't have to worry about a coordinated effort.

"Or I could avoid the both of you and you both can stop trying to kill me." That sounded like a fine idea, but hardly likely. He began to understand just a bit why Sync had helped him dress his wound: Sync didn't want Rolo to die of infection from a wound inflicted by someone else.

How sweet.

"Are you done? I need to clean this up."

"Haha, like that'll happen. I'll just have to off you first before she gets the chance." Which would've been now if it weren't for the fact that Rolo seemed to be physically drained from his encounter with that strange woman. From the moment he stepped into the room Sync hadn't seen the other teen jump about the space, which meant that Rolo was either saving his ability for when he had his back turned or he already used it up when he was fighting the redhead.

One would think that Sync was dirty enough to end it then and there, but victory always tasted the sweetest when it was rightfully earned.

He was going to snap the latter's neck before he would ever have the chance to use that strange teleporting ability of his, and he'd do so when he was sure the latter was at full power.

Sync chuckled at Rolo's oh so subtle command, backing off a few feet before he spoke for the final time.

"Sure, let's go with that. Just make sure you close the door this time." He waited until he was at the doorframe before he spun at his heels and walked right out.

"Oh, I will." Rolo had to, because he was going to need every barrier between him and Sync after the stunt he planned to pull. Rolo was not going to just let Sync walk away unscathed after he had to put up with all of this.

He waited just a moment, and with a sudden, final burst of energy Rolo ran out, his eye casting that familiar red sphere over Sync's form. With the teen frozen in place, Rolo raised his leg...

... and swiftly kicked Sync right in the lower back, timing the hit just as the red glow faded from his eye. As soon as he heard Sync hit the ground, Rolo bolted back into his room, almost skidding as he grabbed the handle and slammed the door shut, locking it.

"HAH!" Childish, but Rolo reveled in his extremely small victory.

SON OF A-

"BITCH!" Sync practically shrieked when his body collided with the floor with a loud FWUMP!, looking over his shoulder just as Rolo slammed the door and locked it.

To hell with keeping his cool! Sync scrambled to his feet and ran at the door, lifting his foot and stomping his boot hard against the surface. He repeated this a few times before he finally stepped back, glaring daggers at the door before he stomped off.

Rolo may have gotten the last laugh tonight, but he was going pay in due time.
