Then came the knock. He'd have to find another time to indulge his curiosity; now his actual duties called. Edgeworth tucked away the papers and shut off his device, and set all previous thoughts on Danvers aside as he cleared his throat and sat up straight in his chair.
"Come in."

"Sir." Gumshoe followed him in. "My I present Sub-Lieutenant Richard Gumshoe, who I made the acquaintance of while on the top deck. He's just been transfered."

"Sir." He pulled out the slightly crumpled but neatly folded papers from the pocket that hadn't been wriggling, holding them in one hand until they were asked for. "Reporting for the Helmsman station, Sir."

Edgeworth cleared his throat and rose from his seat. "Welcome aboard, Sub Lieutenant Gumshoe. I certainly hope that-" The first mate stopped mid sentence, as he noticed the small, furry thing that lurked behind the helmsman. He peered at it, and said, "Gumshoe. Care to explain yourself?"

While Edgeworth wasn't sure how much von Karma would approve, the dog did have the potential to be useful. Vermin were a problem even on the most well kept ships, and as long as Ryohei was in the kitchen, it could only get worse. Edgeworth nodded, and said, "Very well. The dog will be allowed on board with you, as long as you keep an eye on it, and as long as it remains useful."
...besides, Cannon already looked more agreeable than some of the humans aboard the ship. If nothing else, at least dogs were dependable.

Gumshoe couldn't keep the grin off his face. Nodding, he gave his parting salute, taking the man's words and demenor as his dismissal. Cannon gave one last look at the man before trotting after.
Now to find that room....
