Another Day, Another Ship. [Open]

Edgeworth sat at his desk, going over a stack of papers and dossiers. No leave had been granted, and no disaster had befallen the ship, which left him with a wealth of free time until the next catastrophe struck. This suited him just fine; it allowed him to focus on a somewhat unofficial investigation that had gained his interest.

Then came the knock. He'd have to find another time to indulge his curiosity; now his actual duties called. Edgeworth tucked away the papers and shut off his device, and set all previous thoughts on Danvers aside as he cleared his throat and sat up straight in his chair.

"Come in."

Ffamran tugged on his jacket, a nervous twitch he found he had developed since the --- 'dough incident'. He entered into Commander Edgeworth's office and saw the commander sitting in his chair where he'd obviously been working.

"Sir." Gumshoe followed him in. "My I present Sub-Lieutenant Richard Gumshoe, who I made the acquaintance of while on the top deck. He's just been transfered."

The voice behind that door made him straighten up, teeth reflexivly worrying his lower lip as he ran a hand over the worn, but clean, coat. That was the voice to worry about....or, atleast, one of them. As the door opened, he took a steady breath and stepped forward, Cannon on his heels as he snapped another smart salute to the man sitting behind the rather nice looking desk.

"Sir." He pulled out the slightly crumpled but neatly folded papers from the pocket that hadn't been wriggling, holding them in one hand until they were asked for. "Reporting for the Helmsman station, Sir."

Edgeworth looked up at them, and nodded. "Thank you, Bunansa. If you have no other business, you're dismissed." After he reflected on how nice it was to see the navigator when he wasn't coated in beer or dough, he focused his attention on the newcomer

"Have a good day, sir, Mr. Gumshoe." Ffamran saluted Edgeworth and nodded to Gumshoe and considered himself dismissed. He decided to head back out to the deck where he had been, hopefully to find something else more interesting to do.

Gumshoe waited patiently as Edgeworth took and examined his paper work, giving Ffamran one of those wide grins as he left, mouthing the words 'Thanks, Pal!', before refocusing his attention on the man behind the desk

The papers were arranged as neatly as possible, and handed back to Gumshoe. "Your quarters will be assigned below deck, stern side. They're small, but serviceable." Really, this was quite generous, considering the man's reputation for mediocrity. At least he wasn't being stuffed in the barracks.

Edgeworth cleared his throat and rose from his seat. "Welcome aboard, Sub Lieutenant Gumshoe. I certainly hope that-" The first mate stopped mid sentence, as he noticed the small, furry thing that lurked behind the helmsman. He peered at it, and said, "Gumshoe. Care to explain yourself?"

To be honest, Gumshoe was elated to learn that he'd been assigned a private room, his grin wide and telling on his face. Barricks would have been survivable, but...well, who was really stupid enough to -want- the barricks? It was small, cramped, and usually smelly...and he'd be stuck with a bottem bunk since no one in their right mind would want to sleep in a shoddy bunk under someone who was as large as himself. So yes, the room was a happy thing

Edgeworth ignored Gumshoe's mild panic attack, and looked over the dog. The thing appeared to be healthy enough; its fur had a nice, clean sheen to it, its build was thin without being scrawny, and there were no signs of sickliness or weakness that he could see. As for temperament, it passed that test as well. If the past minute or two was any indication, Cannon was calm, well behaved, and mellow, without being listless, languid, or unalert.

While Edgeworth wasn't sure how much von Karma would approve, the dog did have the potential to be useful. Vermin were a problem even on the most well kept ships, and as long as Ryohei was in the kitchen, it could only get worse. Edgeworth nodded, and said, "Very well. The dog will be allowed on board with you, as long as you keep an eye on it, and as long as it remains useful."

...besides, Cannon already looked more agreeable than some of the humans aboard the ship. If nothing else, at least dogs were dependable.

For his own benifit, Cannon simply curled into his owner's chest, tucking that graceful head in under the day old scruff that had formed on the Sub-Lieutenant's chin. It looked to be some kind of sheparding or maybe herding dog, and it's intelligent brown eyes were cool as they watched Edgeworth's examination of him. Once the test was past, however, he was put back down, and he gave a couple of tailwags up at the man in the strange uniform before sitting once more.

Gumshoe couldn't keep the grin off his face. Nodding, he gave his parting salute, taking the man's words and demenor as his dismissal. Cannon gave one last look at the man before trotting after.

Now to find that room....
