Uni had taken the news of the fear gas leak with a certain amount of resignation mingled with concern. She would probably have been more worried if she had not expected this somehow; considering the sensitive nature of the cargo, an accident was more likely than not. So rather than panic, which was what the Uni of five years ago would have done upon learning of the speed at which the gas was spreading through the ship, Uni only set her journal down on her desk and began filling up syringes with the final result of what had been days and nights of sleeplessness and chemicals almost as deadly as her usual poisons ( ... )

Sebastian had not been surprised when he had heard that the fear gas had leaked out-- like Uni, he understood human nature (and to some other degree, the Fiertia's crew) well enough to know that the probability of this event occurring was very near guaranteed. Especially when the sensitive cargo was bouncing around in the cargo hold of the ship. What else could one expect?

At least the First Mate had given them ample warning.

The butler strode swiftly to the infirmary, entering silently. The antidote he and Uni had worked on was not tested, but as he has said earlier, they would have to make do. The fact that his own Young Master had already been infected with the fear gas came to mind.

It would not do at all to allow him to remain in that weak and vulnerable state.

He rapped lightly on the door to catch her attention, giving her a solemn look. "Ms. Uni."

"Mr. Michealis." Ordinarily this would have been the time for an exchange of pleasantries, but time was one thing they did not have. There was only enough of a pause for her to incline her head before she turned her back and attended to the syringes and vials on the table ( ... )

Sebastian stepped up to her side, his sharp crimson eyes observing her work. It was such an interesting process to see-- her delicate and nimble hands hovering over the syringes and case. Her doctor's precision was admirable.

They would see if it would serve its purpose today.

"Understood." He tucked the case into his coat pocket, dipping his head in understanding. "In your mention of incomplete doses, has the Captain given leave to implement them? I cannot say how many have been affected, and to what degree. It would be inconvenient to need to return here to restock when I can carefully ration the antidote as I see fit."

Yuri swung around the corner into the infirmary on the tail end of Sebastian's question. He was in far too much of a rush to bother with useless things like knocking or warning other people of his presence. Considering how his entire officer staff was busy destroying his ship, Yuri felt pretty justified shrugging off niceties.

"Give them whatever will stop them from tearing this place apart." Yuri said to Sebastian, "If you can manage to incapacitate anyone, that'll probably be just as good."

Ah--

Uni paused in between filling more syringes -- this time with sedatives and anesthetics -- to incline her head slightly in Yuri's direction, but nothing more. The less said the better; less potential for confusion that way. The captain was a confusing man.

"Yes, captain." She lowered her gaze briefly, then turned to Sebastian. Asking him not to harm them would be useless; she knew he would do whatever he could to minimize the damage, but it would be unfair to expect a complete lack of injuries. Instead all she said was, "I will be ready to treat any injured when you return."

When. She hadn't wanted to leave. But she did glance at the air vents and think: it could reach us, too.

The captain's voice caught his ear, and the butler turned to face him, nodding in greeting as well. It was somewhat reassuring, he supposed, to know that several of the officers still had possessions of their sanity. It was unfortunate, however, that the ones who had been affected by the gas were the ones who could cause damage, either to the ship or to the crew members.

Namely the First Mate Jabu and Ms. Erza.

Sebastian bowed lightly to Yuri at the answer. "Understood." He was sure he could manage to incapacitate each infected person he encountered, but there would no doubt be some that would need the antidote more than the others. He would just have to see when he went out to seek them. Uni's gaze attracted his attention, and he glanced to her, a wry smile on his lips.

"With luck I will return soon then." With another bow to the both of the them, he turned and sprinted out of the door, the sound of his shoes clacking on the ground fading to silence.

Yuri watched Sebastian run off out of the corner of his eye, then glanced back to Uni. "Keep the windows open and the doors closed. Send out an S.O.S. if anything goes wrong. I'll be back as soon as I take care of Jabu."

With that, he turned and hurried back out the door and down the corridor, axe already unsheathed.

[ooc: aaaand heading up to the 'let's beat the shit out of Jabu' thread. :D]

She did not wait to reply: a breath, two breaths, and they were gone in a rush of motion and footsteps. Uni turned away and choked back a sigh.

Silence, again, and waiting. It was enough to drive one to distraction. But that was all right; she was used to waiting.

Uni pushed open the windows and sank down into a chair beside one of her patients' beds. Dark hair fell over a brow like snow as she buried her face in her hands and tried to think.

Now, now, Uni-chan, he would have said, perhaps, had he been here. No need to fret over such a trivial thing. She wouldn't, but sometimes it was so tiring.

A little more. She inhaled, stood, began readying other things: sedatives and tranquilizers, anesthetics, more of the antidote. Just a little more.
