Minato yawned for about the fiftieth time since he'd woken up, hand raised to his mouth as he stood there, waiting for the other three members of his group. He slipped his hand back into his pocket after making sure his sword was properly sheathed at his side, his Evoker holstered in place, and adjusting an ear piece to his headset. At the moment, he had the volume to his radio on low, so he could hear if anyone approached him.

Hopefully they would all arrive soon so they could get on the lift and to the ship as quickly as possible. If he was right, the search party had gone ahead of them. He certainly couldn't go alone for the engine room, though. It wasn't just that it was risky, but he actually had no idea how to work an engine. He was really going along in case there were monsters, since his attacks, or even Inugami's healing spell, would come in handy.

While searching around for the engine room to a crashed ship that had lain defenseless in the Badlands for some time was a decidedly dangerous proposition, Nikolas was actually looking forward to it. He'd gotten to flex a little muscle during the spider infestation, so to speak, but he was actually vaguely hoping for a chance to really cut loose on this mission. It was rare he ever utilized anything close to his full abilities in the daily dispensation of his duties on the Silvana, after all.

So it was in rather high spirits--at least for him--that Nikolas approached the appointed area. "We should have two others joining us," he commented to Minato as he walked up. "Then we can proceed."

As usual, Chichiri was adorned with his hat and cape, staff in hand and mask on his face. He had been doing a lot of work helping Tear lately, but those operations had brought him to the realization that he would have to meet a lot more of the crew members if he was supposed to be doing any kind of detective work. Plus, there was some adventure to be found waiting in that abandoned ship, he was sure of it.

Even though he was ready to make some new friends - or at least acquaintances - it was nice to see a familiar face. "Nikolas no da!" Chichiri chirped before turning to acknowledge the other person with a head nod and a smile. "I'm Chichiri no da."

With Seragillo nowhere to be found, Tear had found herself assigned to the engine room search in his stead. Not wanting to waste another moment, she hastily hurried to where the other volunteers were to meet ( ... )

When Nikolas joined him, Minato turned off his radio calmly and pulled his earpieces off, letting the headset dangle around his neck. He nodded to him, and was about to speak when Chichiri joined them. His expression didn't change too noticeably, though he did give him a very faint smile. "Minato Arisato. Nice to meet you."

Nikolas had said there would be two others, and, if he remembered the post correctly, the last was Angelo Seragillo. The person that joined them was someone else, however, but that didn't bother him at all. Tear was ready to get started (she reminded him of Mitsuru, in a way), and he was fine with that. He didn't really know any of them, but he could tell they were capable.

He just had to wonder if any of them had any knowledge of how to work with an engine, in Angelo's place. No matter, they'd figure something out.

Nodding, he turned to the lift doors, pressing a few buttons to open them up, and moved to step onto the elevator. Afterward, he moved to a corner, to let one of them take charge of the lift controls

"Chichiri," Nikolas nodded in acknowledgment as the other man approached. He'd been glad to see they had a competent team for this particular undertaking, especially considering it was difficult to say just what they would encounter inside. The wreck had been sitting there since Lunesa, after all.

He arched an eyebrow when Tear appeared... so far as he knew, Seragillo was meant to be their fourth, but he wasn't going to question the Quartermaster's appearance. He just hoped the engine wasn't in too bad a state when the found it... he had some very rudimentary training, but his knowledge was nearly a decade old, and had never been terribly comprehensive, at any rate. He nodded again at the orders. "Of course." He trusted they would all be professional about this, and felt reasonably confident that everyone would at least e able to hold their own. He waited while everyone boarded the lift, then pressed the controls that would send them on their way.

"Nice to meet you too, Minato Arisato no da." The boy had a nice smile, and Chichiri could always appreciate that. When Tear joined their group, Chichiri chirped happily and waved at her. "Tear no da!" It seemed that they had been working together quite a bit lately. Not that Chichiri minded; Tear was a nice girl and a serious worker.

Determined to meet someone new, Chichiri stepped into the elevator next to Minato and immediately began in on a conversation. "I haven't seen you around before no da. Have you been on the ship for a while?" Anyone else would have sounded nosy, but Chichiri's voice was so upbeat and light that it was obvious the man was just looking to make pleasant conversation. "Do you know a lot about engine work?"

His next question was directed toward all of members in his group. "Do we know the exact location of the engine room no da?" With all of his experience on different ships, Chichiri was aware that no two ships were the same and that they might be in for a search once they got to the Montague.

Stepping into the elevator, Tear stood next to the controls, besides Kamarov. She didn't doubt that he had experience with the lift, but, in case of any contingencies, it'd prove wise to hover close by. Although, so far, the elevator seemed to be progressing rather stably ( ... )

Minato blinked when Chichiri joined him in the corner, though didn't seem to mind, despite what seemed to be a quiet nature. He joined him in conversation relatively easily, small smile returning. "You can just call me Minato, if you like." He put his hands in his pockets again, leaning against the wall of the lift. "I've been on since after the incident in Melior," he explained calmly. "Though I've been resting in my quarters since."

He wasn't about to explain that casting Zio repeatedly on clockwork spiders to fry them was exhausting. If he had to show his abilities, only then would he explain anything.

He tilted his head at the question, just slightly, before he shrugged. "Only a little." Hopefully they wouldn't have to do anything extreme in repairs, because his only expertise in engines involved luck. Considering it, Minato looked up when Tear spoke. Nodding to her warning, he pulled a hand from his pocket, resting it on the hilt of his sword. The other stayed in his pocket, though it was on the side with his Evoker ( ... )

"Aft and lower, most likely," Nikolas nodded in agreement. "The precise level depends on the ship." He'd been ground forces, for the most part during his career, but he'd seen quite a few ships in his day. "It may be higher up, given this is a cargo vessel. They'll have allotted more of the lower decks to cargo holds."

He stopped the lift after a moment more. "We should probably start here, although given the state of the ship, I wouldn't be surprised if we find a blocked hallway or two. We might have to get creative." To be perfectly honest, Nikolas thought this was likely to be a lost cause. Even if they could get the engine running, it didn't seem likely to him that the ship would be airworthy.

"Minato, then no da," Chichiri said happily. "I came aboard around the same time as you, then." It was strange Chichiri hadn't seen the boy around, but he'd been pretty busy and things had been a big mess at the time. It was also strange that it didn't seem like anyone in their group knew much about engines. "I know a bit about lightning power, but I'm afraid I can't do much with an engine other than that." And that was assuming the engine even ran at all on lightning ( ... )

Taking a step off the elevator, Tear quickly scanned her surroundings, her eyes narrowing slightly as she struggled to peer through the thin layer of darkness. She could faintly catch the sound of water dripping and the scratching of what she hoped were only rats, and she instantly felt her spine stiffen, her mind growing sharp with alert.

Glancing at Chichiri, she gave a slight nod as acknowledgement. Hopefully what he had detected wasn't a creature of some sort, as the captain had mentioned. Although, if so, she would be prepared to attack - as she was certain the others were as well.

"We'll head left then," she stated, as she started forward. Fortunately, her eyes were starting to adjust to the dim lighting, and she could have a better sense of her surroundings. There were two corridors, one leading right and another heading left. Considering how Chichiri had admonished against the former, it seemed best to take the latter.

Lightning? Minato guessed he wouldn't need Zio, then, unless something came up. It was best to figure out what would be more convenient for the salvage trip before he needed it. "I don't think the engine will be salvageable." He was just speaking his mind; the way the exterior of the ship looked, and now the interior, gave him no hope. Still, they might be able to recover parts from it. "For flight, anyways."

As he stepped out of the lift after the others, he considered what Nikolas said. Depending on how things looked when they got further in... "We might have to split up to find it." Despite his expression returning to a mostly neutral one, he didn't seem all to excited about that idea. He didn't doubt his new teammates, but he certainly didn't doubt the dangers in the ship.

Moving to the right of the group, he unsheathed his sword, taking it in both hands calmly. It was better to be safe than sorry, after all, and if there was something down that hall, Minato didn't want it to catch them off guard while they were going down the ( ... )

Nikolas nodded along with Minato's assessment. "I was thinking along the same lines. I don't think the ship would survive take-off, though I'm no engineer. Still, the Captain would like us to try. At worst, we disappoint him." Well, at worst, they could be torn limb from limb by something lurking down that corridor not take, or the whole ship could slide down the mountain with them in it... but it seemed unkind to bring those possibilities up at the present.

He peered into the dim corridor, quickly growing annoyed with the dimness of their surroundings. Thankfully, that was a problem he could solve with relative ease, and, channeling a little of the energy he always had in reserve, the gloom was soon lifted somewhat by a soft blue glow that seemed to emanate right from his skin. ...it was more than just a party trick, though... this way he was more prepared to hit anything that suddenly sprung up.

The sight of Nikolas glowing blue disheartened Chichiri a bit. Were they all magicians? Hopefully Minato's sword wasn't just for show. Chichiri was a big caster, but he wasn't exactly quick on his feet, and he had always assumed other mages were the exact same way. Small spells were quick to cast, but they would probably not get the job done on a larger monster.

Actually, now that he thought about it, he wasn't exactly sure what Tear was capable of. From their chats, he knew she had some magical experience, but he didn't know to what extent. She was a smart girl, so it was possible she could have just picked up some magic just for information sake.

While Chichiri was deep and thought, he had completely forgotten to pay attention to the menacing life force that he had felt coming down one of the corridors. By the time he regained his guard, he felt the aura was a lot closer and closing in behind them pretty quickly. "Something's coming," Chichiri said quietly, pulling his staff closer to him. "It's coming fast."

Arisato's suggestion was exactly what had come up in her mind just earlier. Splitting up was an adequate idea, but the only problem would be the difficulty they may face with any approaching enemies. She didn't doubt all of them were capable of handling themselves, but if a multitude should assault them ( ... )
