At work, someone discovered a black widow holding on to her egg sack. It was pretty cool. A small, shiny, black spider no bigger than my thumbnail holding on to her egg sack with a visible red mark on her belly. Just like you see on the books ( Read more... )

And then, the babies hung around Mom's crushed body, in order to eat her.

It was definately better that being bit. I hope you took care of what you could as the bites from one of those really suck. I had no idea how excrutiantingly painful they could be until I had to treat a patient. He had even went to the trouble to bring the smashed spider in to prove he was bitten. It was a good idea as if one had not truly known the crying out one might have thought he was faking. It was horrific.
