My prettiest Texel sow has died.
She had babies a week ago. It was her first litter and she and the babies seemed to be doing great. Then yesterday I noticed she seemed listless. I fed her some formula with C and calcium and she seemed to rally a bit, but she wouldn't eat or drink. By the second feeding she couldn't stand and I removed the three babies and let her be. She died early that evening.
I've been feeding the babies every two hours, and helping them "go." Seems there is one who needs the food/help, the others seem to be feeding and sometimes "going" themselves. There's a bottle of formula hanging in the cage plus water, pellets, grass and hay. The one who needs help also has an eye infection, being treated with terramycin ointment.
I'm hoping they'll be self-sufficient by Saturday's show in PA!
