I am so relieved! My favorite anti-abortion greyhair and his posters are back. I was worried about him. But now that he's back, we can all learn that "Choice is Abortion" and that just as there is genocide in Darfur, there is genocide in America--abortions! Ok, enough propaganda.
What else? I've changed my mind about Volcano Cowboys. I still don't love it, but it is not quite so bad as I had thought. When last I posted re: said Volcano Cowboys, I had finished the Mt. St. Helens part and was in the middle of the Pinatubo part. Thus, I was convinced that I am in immediate and personal danger of a volcanic eruption (and, dude, how much would that suck? Answer: a lot). But then I finished the Pinatubo section (and the book) yesterday and am now in a much better frame of mind. Despite the higher death toll at Pinatubo, the overall story/timeline of events/what have you is much, much cheerier. I found myself cheering, "Go, Shaggy! Go, Scooby!"* Er...make that, "Go, Volcano Cowboys! Go, meatballs! Yeah!" Maybe geology isn't quite so dreadfully boring, after all. Maybe.**
I wish that the genre of popular science/history of science books didn't suck so much. But historians? Generally not scientists. And scientists? Generally not historians. The Elements of Murder is quite interesting, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired.
*Note, Shaggy and Scooby (cowards) are the antithesis of the Volcano Cowboys (daredevils).
**Actually, it still is boring to me. But the pop science geology books are alright.
