Uh. I'm not trying to help. I'm explaining that having a not-all-inclusive "folk" and talking about it all the time and excluding people isn't cool and that everyone contributes in their own way, shape, and form.
I just went back and counted the number of St. Francisville-related posts, or posts that have anything more more than a passing mention of non-LA Tech friends, in my LJ. By the time I got to November, I had maybe five.
I wasn't saying you were bitching. I was saying there shouldn't be any hurt feelings about it because it is exactly the way it is and there's no changing it. It was more directed at whomever told you that you weren't a part of whatever.
Sorry, because you were referring to Jess's post, I thought that might have something to do with it.
As for the "Gumbo" and the "Others", the Others are not those "outside" of the Gumbo Folk. We never refer to anyone as the Others, Jess used the word to refer to her friends "other" than James, myself included.
So, I repeat, no one's bickering about who is or isn't in our group. Your explanation is welcome, but unnecessary. If you ask me who the Gumbo Folk are, my response will be: "My friends". Some of those friends just happen to be closer than others, but such is the case with anyone. We never intended to change anything by giving it a name.
Good analogy, though. Very suitable.
