The Door to Light (11, Loss, Riku/Sora)
Title: The Door to Light

Author's Notes: Um... yeah. I love the first Kingdom Hearts game, if you couldn't tell. I have another drabble done, but my beta is busy! D: I decided to post this one first.
And, because you're all probably sick of me flooding your F-lists, I'm thinking of posting my works to a me-only community. Have any good names? :D
Riku had heard the entire fight going on between Ansem and Sora; just because he couldn’t interfere didn’t mean that he was oblivious to what was going on.
The King had told him his sentence already (but since King Mickey was serving it as well, would it be as bad?): they would be trapped behind the door of light, trapped with the darkness that Riku himself had delved so deeply into.
Although King Mickey had promised him that there was always more than one doors to light, when Ansem had attempted to open Kingdom Hearts, Riku knew he had this one chance to escape, to be free from this dark, and evil prison…
But he chose to stay, waiting only for Sora to approach the doors so he wouldn’t be doing this task alone. This was his atonement. This was his punishment. I have to leave my past behind…
“I can’t…” Sora exclaimed, resting against the door of Kingdom Hearts for a tired, but brief moment. That was when Riku decided that the fate of all words was much, much more important that the fate of a stupid fifteen year old, who had dabbled in the darkness for too long. Reaching a hand to grab the outer edge of the door, Riku shouted encouragements to his best friend.
“Don’t give up!” When Sora’s head snapped up, his eyes wide with both hope and realization of what was going to happen to his best friend, Riku shoved them aside, and forced the brunette to focus on the task at hand. “Together we can do it!”
After more patronage from King Mickey himself, the door was slowly closing. All of Riku’s hopes and dreams (wants and needs), were just beyond the door…and yet, he forced himself to stay behind.
He wanted to tell Sora three simple words, before he was cast into the darkness forever…but with a sad sigh, he realized he would have to let Sora go. If Riku were to die behind Kingdom Hearts, forever trapped behind the door to light, he would never want to shackle Sora to any promises, regardless of what he’d done to the teen before hand.
“Take care of her,” was Riku’s final words, and, with one last smile, the door was shut, locking him with the darkness.
