Making Progress

So what has happened to the Schitt over the last couple of weeks? 'Tis an interesting question, but I'm not so sure the answer will be as satisfying.

The theme of most of my recent activities has been a look towards the future. I am now an official part of the Warfield crew as their official camera man. I got to pass them the chain that ultimately cost them the match in my debut appearance, but I have much trickery and asshole-ery to unleash on the AWN over the next several weeks. My "real" job seems to be supportive of my endeavor, as the general manager said he'd sign off on the paperwork making me unavailable to work on Saturday nights.

With that accomplished, my next challenge was presented to me. My roomies saw a commercial for a contest right here on MySpace to submit a show concept to win 50 grand and get a pilot made for FX. We're at the dialogue-writing stage, which should be completed today, then we film and submit. We still have a week and a half to boot, so I'm feeling pretty good about this one, almost like we might actually complete it. Even if we don't win the contest, we'll make the show viewable to all of you, the avid fans, in some form.

I've even made my school schedule for the fall, and I've submitted the proper paperwork to pay for it. Hopefully this semester will give me back the HOPE scholarship and make me a junior, finally. They're modest aspirations, I know, but you have to take baby steps with me sometimes.

I could also tell you about my drunken blunders, such as the sprained knee and gash on my inner-thigh, but they seem kinda inconsistent with the rest of the blog. Therefore, I'll give you something much more relevant...my review of X-Men 3.

Before I get into it, they played a trailer for Superman Returns prior to the movie, and it looks incredible. I think Kevin Spacey will make a perfect Lex Luthor. I can't wait, I can't wait. One thing you should know about my qualifications as a critic is that I have never regularly read the X-Men comics, though I am constantly around those who have, but I have seen the first two movies more times than I can remember, so I was looking forward to this as much as anyone else.

I enjoyed the movie overall. I've seen the "cure" storyline on the old X-Men cartoon, and I know they changed it up a bit, but for time constraints and the lack of introducing Apocalypse, I thought it was a good catalyst for an all-out human/mutant war. I was disappointed how Cyclops got taken out like a bitch, and the only good part of Mystique going out so quickly was getting to see her half-naked for real. Now, maybe they crammed in too much with the Phoenix and Juggernaut in the same movie, but they didn't really explore the Juggernaut, and they never explicitly said Juggernaut was a mutant. They just made a vague comment about the helmet, so he could conceivably be done justice in a future installment or spinoff movie, though I imagine making him a mutant would be the obvious Hollywood shortcut. Phoenix being a subdued personality disorder or whatever was disappointing, and maybe she should have been left out altogether, but trying to do the true Phoenix saga would be a hell of an undertaking as a stand-alone movie, much less a side story. Wolverine kicked ass as usual, but he should have taken a Batman-like approach to his "team membership". Yeah, he's on the team until it's terribly inconvenient, like trying to save his baby or what not. Of course, I think all that was a result of Storm's constant nagging, but whatever. The fight scenes were incredible, and Magneto is my new hero. I was actually kinda depressed when Beast, who actually came off well for being "Frasier" wearing a blue fur suit, stabbed him, but luckily it all worked out in the end. Once again, the Brotherhood took a schalacking, and the humans didn't really learn a lesson. I was surprised to hear Professor X being an ass to Wolverine, but Phoenix fucked an ass or two after she escaped, so I guess he was justified. I'm glad he, and Moira inadvertantly, found a way back after the credits. I think the movie was at least consistent with the other movies, and if anything, they tried too much to go out with a bang. Hopefully, there will be an X-Men 4, but I think we'll have to settle for Wolverine and Magneto spinoffs, which is fine by me.

I think that's enough of my bullshit for one post. Until I write again....
