Nikola has already retreated to his lab. He is pacing along his bench, eyeing the shelf above the Nubbins which looks more like a liquor store than a laboratory benchtop. Oh yes, he's going to do something about that ever growing collection of wine bottles - preferably before Helen finds them and accuses him (accurately) of stealing them.

"Don't squeak at me... I have fed you twice already," he muttered at the pair of Nubbins as they tried to get his attention.

Behind him, one of the large windows was open, its scarlet curtains rippling in the cool wind.

Kate knocked on the door before letting herself in,

"The defenses are up", she said, "Just say the word and I can have it all lit up and ready to go."

Nikola turned, a couple of empty wine bottles in hand.

"I don't know what's happened to our evil friends - it's been months... They could have taken us at any time."

"Waiting for us to let our guards down? Just plain fucking with us?" Kate suggested, tiredly. She hadn't been sleeping again, and it was showing.

Nikola had to free the bottom of his coat from the Nubbin cage - the little things had their teeth in it.

"Or gathering more resources," he pointed out quietly. "With Morgause and Ashley at their disposal, goodness knows what they have coming for us."

"Kind of hoping it's just more mind games, thanks", she sighed, slumping down in one of his chairs. She'd been spending more and more time here lately, talking strategy, defenses. Things maybe he didn't want to worry others about.

He let her stay - a form of apology for what had happened between them in the past.

"I'd offer you wine but it's too early for mortals to drink..." Nikola said with a quiet smile.

"Screw that", Kate griped, "Pass me a glass." No, it wasb't exactly responsible to drink when hell could rain down at any moment but the stress was getting to her.

Hell sounded like it was raining down - as a sheet of rain suddenly hit the walls. Nikola swore, running to close the window and getting mildly drowned in the processes.

He returned to her with a glass of red.

"Sorry, it's not very good. Helen hasn't restocked the cellar."

Kate shrugged, accepting the glass gratefully, "I'm not picky", she said, especially not at this point. She watched the rain pour down against the glass.

"How's Morgana holding up?"

There was a bit of thunder to go with that lightening.

"She is worried about her sister, understandably," Nikola said quietly. "After Morgause confronted us in the carpark - at least Morgana knows there is hope for her."

It also proved just how dangerous Morgause had become.

The literal storm had arrived, maybe the metaphorical one was just around the corner as well. She nodded,

"Just got to sit and wait then."

"I'm not good at sitting - and I need to hide all these wine bottles."

"The Big C's about to rain six kinds of hell on us, I don't think the Doc will be getting on your case about your little booze problem today."

Nikola knew that but - it felt better to pretend that the worse thing that could happen was the wine cellar running dry.

"We did not discover enough from the stolen hard drives. The Cabal have started to get smarter."

Kate sighed, heavily, tiredly.`This`war had worn`her to the bone, quiet as it was.

"Too much to hope for, I guess"
