My books.

Three-day holiday weekends blow because the buses don't run. I'm stuck at home or stuck in town waiting for rides, and my three favorite places (the post office, library, and bank) are closed.  Plus, I've had to work Friday, Saturday, baby-sat for seven hours on Sunday, and work today, so nothing's good. Which reminds me of the difference between ( Read more... )

I bank because the ladies that work at the bank love me for some reason. I mean, they are the nicest people and greet me by name, in unison every time I come in. They are the best sources of gossip, compliments on my articles in the paper, and butterscotch candies. Plus, I have a teensy bit of money these days, so it's nice to not be embarrassed about my balance when I make a deposit.

One time, I was $100 short on rent, and started tearing up, and the manager there practicallly offered to lend me the money, but later told me she couldn't have because she'd lose her job if anyone found out.

The post office I like because I need mail like zombies need fresh brains. I thrive on the knowledge that I can put a piece of paper in the hands of a complete stranger and for a nominal fee they will administer that paper into the hands of a series of different machines and people and then that paper, my paper, will be in the hands of an addressee far away. And I fuckin' hate it when they get a day off, and I'm waiting for a copy of "Wings on Desire" that was supposed to be here Saturday. Goddamnit.

(I like the library for obvious reasons, plus our library has an incredibly hot librarian who resembles Sigourney Weaver, including her voice, except she's a redhead and probably at least 50, and the *sweetest* woman I've ever met. She waves at me from her car.)

Going to the library, post office and bank make me feel grown-up and efficient.

Thank you. Those are excellent reasons.

The library needed no explanation, as it is the library. I guess I feel that anyone who needs an explanation why a library (other than, perhaps, the library on campus, which just doesn't have the same feel as a neighborhood library) is a favorite place to go has something fundamentally wrong with him/her. This is judgmental on my part, and I don't care.
