I just finished Toll the Hounds, the 8th book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson. Still engrossed. It's rare to find a fantasy series that not only is really well written, but manages to keep your interest for this many books, especially considering the size of those books. (I do hope he will continue writing now that the tenth and final part of the series has been published.) But as usual someone has always checked out the next book in line when I'm done with one. I swear that someone is just trying to spite me, seeing as I've got the previous book, and they can't very well have been reading that just prior, can they? Especially since I checked only a week ago, and then it was sitting there on the shelf. *grumble*
I've also managed to get the library to buy three more Diana Wynne Jones books -- I requested them on a distance loan, and they decided that they might as well buy them as distance loans are apparently quite expensive for the libraries. So now they have Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Air and Charmed Life in addition to The Merlin Conspiracy. I wonder what will happen if I order Deep Secret, too?
Also, I just bought and finished Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London, which was a good book and I will definitely be getting book no. 2 (Moon Over Soho). It was well-paced, funny and not in the least annoying despite the main character being an apprentice wizard, because unlike other apprentice wizards we could mention, this one is actually rather clever and competent and has an inkling of what he's doing. As well as being a constable on the Met. Higly enjoyable and definitely recommended.
Next up is China Miéville's latest book Embassytown. Really looking forward to it.
