The King's Speech

Yesrday evening I used one of my cinema vouchers to go and see The King's Speech, which was a wonderful film with outstanding acting. Touching and funny -- and I realised once again how much I've benefited from watching a lot of English-language TV shows and films without subtitles, because when there was a joke or some humour that the subtitler didn't get (or that wasn't translatable), I was the only person laughing in a full theatre with 237 seats. (On the other hand, I guess they didn't have to get annoyed by the occasional mistranslations.)

When the credits were rolling I heard a bunch of girls commenting that they'd seen a number of the actors in the Harry Potter movies. First I thought that it goes to show how much our TV and cinema are dominated by American productions, but then I also thought that the Harry Potter movies are, indeed, showcases for some of the best actors in the UK. There is some excellent casting there.

And now I have this sudden craving to rewatch the old BBC Pride and Prejudice. :) (Not least because Jennifer Ehle and David Bamber were also in the film.)
