And also the
Glorious 25th of May. And the lilacs are just coming into bloom. But nobody answered
my appeal to have a Towel Day picnic, so I'll just have to walk around with a towel and a sprig of lilac on my lonesome. (And the weather *is* a bit too cold for picnic comfort.)
Yesterday evening my doggie neighbours rang my doorbell and said they were going to Plantagen to buy plant soil, and asked if I wanted to come. I couldn't think of anything I needed off hand, but tagged along anyway, and once there I saw
compost wire fence for only 99 kr, and suddenly realised that the width was exactly enough to cover the balcony door opening. Once I got home it was short work to fasten three of the sections to each other with cable ties, with the ends overlapping for greater stability and also to avoid having to cut anything, and then stick two opened-up eye-screws in the hinge-side doorpost and hang it up. Done! Well, I have to find something to fasten it on the opening side, but I think ordinary angle screws will do. It doesn't look very elegant, true, but it means I can leave the balcony door open at night when it gets warmer, without first having to spend ages trying to build a proper doorframe and netted inner door. Boy, am I glad I didn't yet buy the wood for that!
Everybody tells me I should just go ahead and build a full-coverage balcony net anyway, even though the housing company said I couldn't. I think I will, but not this year. Not after just having asked and been denied.
The wooden net frame for the balcony front needs two coats of paint, and I since I can't paint it all the way around in one go it will take at least another day before I can attach the net. I've had to do it indoors since the weather is unpredictable. I did start painting it out on the balcony, but after only a few hours it started raining and I had to bring it indoors. It doesn't smell too badly, and also it won't get a lot of tiny flies stuck in the paint. >.<
I also have to get a litterbox, cat litter and cat food. Then I'm all set. If everything goes according to plan*, I will be ready for the cat by the weekend. :D

*Fingers crossed.
