More telly

I've just watched the Swedish and British versions of Firewall (Brandvägg), after the crime novel by Henning Mankell, back to back. And I must say, strange as it feels to have people speaking English while pretending to be Swedish, and walking or driving around in our local landscape, it felt almost as strange to have a lot of Stockholm actors playing Ystad policemen (for comparison, imagine Sam Tyler and the Guv speaking Estuary English...) Lassgård is, of course, iconic as Wallander, but, strangely, I found that Branagh actually mangaged to evoke Ystad and Scania better than the Swedish version did, though not without some weirdness, of course.

telly, the amazing power of british telly, svenska och sverige
