Those of you Swedes who have read Låt den rätte komma in by John Ajvide Lindqvist (and anyone else, of course -- it's translated into English after all, as Let the Right One In), what do you think about the book? And have you seen the new feature film, and is it any good ( Read more... )

It's not weird, I don't like horror either. At all.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only horrorphobe in the vicinity!

The proper position for watching Blink is, of course, from behind the couch.

And that one was scary indeed. I'll never look at a statue the same way again.

Sorry that I can't help you with the book or movie, haven't read/seen either of them.

About alien and aliens: I totally understand you, and having seen alien in a period when I was pretty much into that sort of movies, alien is very high on my list of best movies ever, if not right at the top. It really gets to you in a way very few other movies can.

I think it was very good, but it WAS scary- very much so. But I don't mind horror stories- what I can't stomach are realistic novels when children dies.

Thanks. Are you talking about the book or the film, or both? :)

I was invited to go see it with V, who had an extra freebie ticket. I liked it; it was an interesting take on the vampire myth, even if horror isn't really my cookie either. It's not really a horror movie in its style either - the book may be different, but there's precious little of what you're describing.

Thanks. By "precious litte of what you're describing", I take it you mean the things I said I have problems with? So, not much psychological build-up or evil or inevitable doom?

thedimholt tells me there isn't really much real horror stuff of the kind you mention in the book. Inspired by this post, I finally got around to reading the book late last night. Just a few pages into it at the moment, but give me a few days and I should be able to give you my own opinion on the matter.

I've been meaning to read this book for a long time, but somehow never really felt like picking it up when I needed to start a new book. I hadn't intended to start reading it now either, thinking I should read some sf or some non-fantastic book, after the epic-fantasy overload of G.R.R. Martin, but then I started on some non-fiction and after a while felt like reading some easy-read fiction in parallel, and when I saw this post yesterday, reading Låt den rätte komma in seemed just the thing to do.

Exactly. There's a little more blood and such than I would recommend to allow kids to watch it, but the focus isn't really on the horror bits.
