Last Sunday, a friend of mine gave me an apron. This may not sound like a great thing, but the apron is handwoven and handsewn and is a necessary part of the traditional costume I'm making. I have just been deciding to buy the fabric for such an apron for 600 SEK (something like 75 USD). Note that on top of this I would have to buy the handwoven ribbon to tie it on for nearly as much money, and then sew it all together.
My friend found this apron at a flea market for 30 SEK and thought, "Who do I know who is interested in these folklore things?" The thing is, she couldn't have known how perfect it is (the fabric is even prettier than the fabric I was going to buy, and I'm almost certain it's the right pattern for the regional type of costume I'm making). She just gave me a great gift and saved me 1000 SEK in the process.
Here is a photo of the apron:
Best of all, there are still some things I can do with it; for instance I should probably make tassels for the apron strings.
Thanks, Anna, even though you won't see this!
