Wow! I haven't done one of these in forever! I suppose I've simply been too focused in my rantings to need a Lighting Round, or it's all been disjointed boring garbage from the get go that could have gone in a single Lightning Round and nobody bothered to tell me. Well, I've got a lot of random crap I want to get out of my head, so pull up a chair.
TV has made itself obsolete. By careful consideration, I've discovered I only need to watch two hours of TV a week. One hour, of course, belongs to House. It is the air that I breathe and my hope for the future that I become so badass at my job that I can belittle those that would oppose me with no repercussions at all. The other hour is split between The Soup on E! and Best Week Ever on VH1. Those two shows condense all of pop culture into bite-size, easy to digest pieces that are infinitely funnier than in their original form. No reality TV, no music TV, no gossip shows that think I give a shit about celebrities and their fucked up lives. It's beautiful. Everything else that I watch on TV is a bonus after that.
I think I've stumbled upon the ultimate way to goof off at work. Wait for it. The ultimate way to goof off at work is to watch Office Space, in it's entirety, while at work! Genius, I know. Plans are already in motion to make this happen before we all take off for Christmas break. Most of our labs are on keycard access, so we don't have to worry about anyone walking in on our merriment, if there's even anyone around that late in December to be mad at us for this grand transgression. I'm literally giddy with anticipation. I'm such a bad influence.
I know I've pretty much told everyone at this point, but I want this blog to serve as a journal to myself as well as entertainment for all you guys. It's official, I'm going back to Building L on December 1st at the latest. It's almost over. Two more weeks. Thank God too. Stuff is broken all over the labs, projects are behind, and my desk needs to be dusted. It's like waiting for my birthday to come. The suspense is killing me.
Speaking of suspense, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire comes out on Friday and I'm stoked. I finished the book last weekend and I'm already 250 pages into Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. It's fascinating to look back and see how the series has evolved for a more universal appeal, rather than staying a kid's book. Hell, Order of The Phoenix tops out at just over 800 pages. No way a twelve year old is going to read a 800 page book, or at least not until the Harry Potter series came out.
Marcel's brews are fantastic. He is really coming into his own as a brewmaster. I wouldn't call him an amateur anymore. The Nut Brown Ale is finally carbonated and it is delicious. It has a strong, powerful, hearty taste that keeps you coming back for more. And more. OK, fine, I was pretty drunk by the end of the night, but I have justification for it. I don't even want to try comparing it to anything else so as not to detract from its wonderful flavor. The hard cider Marcel made, though uncarbonated at this point and still a little sour, packs quite a whallop. I'm sure it'll be another great batch when it's reached maturity. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it.
Last but not least, here's a treat for you closet country music fans out there. You know who you are; I can spot you a mile away. Not that I own 7 Garth Brooks CDs or anything, I just can. A six-parter from our friends at
Penny Arcade.
