Cory and I always said we wanted to live together before we got married. We just never figured it'd be this early.
Not even ten days after deciding to expand our horizons, we have found our new home. It's a two-bedroom apartment in Syosset that we plan to stay at for the next five or so years (until we get a house). It's really nice. And it's ours.
The rent is a little steep ($1300 plus utilities), but at least cable's free. It doesn't matter what it costs, though - we love the apartment and are grateful for this opportunity. So much so that I figured I'd keep a diary of the whole process, just to have something to remember the whole thing by.
We got the word that the apartment was ours on Tuesday night. After that, we went to Target and got some necessities - somehow, we ended up with a 16-piece plate set, 16 glasses, a vacuum cleaner, and a shower curtain for like $80. And if any of it breaks... well, that's what our wedding registry is for. We went to Home Depot to get swatches of paint colors so we can redo the place in our (i.e. Cory's) liking. We're painting tomorrow - should be fun.
Cory's dad is hooking us up big-time - he lent us the security deposit AND money for a bed. Unfortuately, we didn't realize that didn't include the mattress. Whoops. Thankfully, Macy's just happened to have Customer Appreciation Day yesterday so we got a pretty good deal. Given that my back is a wreck at least 33% of the time, it's a good thing.
Honestly, none of this mattered to me as I tried to sleep Tuesday night. All I worried about was money. In a sleepless panic, I called Cory at 2 AM asking her to call the whole thing off. Needless to say, she didn't take kindly to this. But somehow, getting all my fears out really helped. I'm fine now - ask me again when our credit card statements come.
Now, I'm packing a bunch of stuff up for the move. I have already boxed up all my DVDs and X-Box games (this took like 2 1/2 boxes), my books, my home theater system, my TiVo, and the TV itself. That was a big one - I was terrified of bringing this 100-pound TV downstairs by myself. I was convinced I'd bust my ass on the steps and not only break the TV, but my neck as well. But I had the nerve, so I did it today. After nearly dropping the thing on the first step, I got it down okay. That's a relief. Don't ask me how I plan to get the TV stand, computer desk, and bookcase down by myself, though.
I begged for hours tonight at ShopRite and I got them. I'll pick up some boxes there - they certainly won't go to waste.
More later.
