Ok, I don't have much to say about the first article. I could defend myself -Not me! I'm not the Caucasian liberal she's describing! Sure, I vote democrat and I've got a Master's Degree but my kids attended a public elementary school that was 75% Hispanic and I work in public service to help people and I think it's really thick skulled when white people don't "get" the Black Lives Matter movement, etc, but because I am white AND Southern, I really get no say here ( ... )

Good (Very Early) Morning!

The internet changed my life too -- it was the vehicle which brought SO and I together :)

I'll throw a grenade: The first thing I automatically thought of re the second article was Pantsuit Nation. That is, a lot of people -- mostly educated white women, in my experience -- espouse a lot and "claim" a lot but, as the article points out, have very little actual experience to back themselves up. I think of my college roommate, who walks what she talks -- she works at a family shelter, she organizes a lot of social justice-related activities for her city, she's right out there on the front lines when it comes to things the article discusses. Compare that to the lip service which , IMO, was what Pantsuit Nation was partly about (and please, don't give me the "but that's not all it was" argument. I know a lot of it had to do with women teaching their daughters an important lesson. I'm not talking about that aspect ( ... )

I've already voted, she stealthbrags, so I have time for a long-winded comment.

That second article describes why I left one of the most progressive cities in NC for God's Waiting Room in the next (redneck) county over. All these people were very concerned about animal rights and not so much for human rights. One of my co-workers was very concerned about the state of the world and saving the elephants but she thought her kid was too good for public school and when you got her into a serious conversation it became very clear that she was much more conservative than she thought she was. This was typical of people in this town: they were good at making noise, not so good at action.

This is why I live among the rednecks. They do things rather than talk about it. When a tree fell out of our yard into the street, our redneck neighbor with a chainsaw had the tree cleared out of the road by the time I got my roommates out of bed and down to the driveway. He's never mentioned it, we've never mentioned it. We're just glad the road is clear.

That was me back in November. I lasted until midnight thirty and woke up at 4 a.m. still in disgust.

I could cope with the fact that Scotland helped the Conservative party win. I hate it but I could cope

But they are now talking about an alliance with a party that is not only anti LGBT, denies climate change and believes creationism should be taught in schools but they also have ties to an active terrorist organisation

It's like the world has gone mad :(
