This is going to explain EVERYTHING EVER ABOUT RIFF.
For those who do not want to be spoiled but still want to come away feeling as though they have learned something, have this fun transcription of one of Kaori Yuki's notes:

Once upon a time, there was a nice little boy named Riff. He was cute and sweet and happy. He was a medical student. He had a fiancee! But then his mean brother Clyde told her horrible lies about how Riff only wanted to marry her to get access to her father's hospital. It was just tragic. Shortly thereafter, Riff's house burned down and his whole family died.
It was so sad. Riff had a very bad case of survivor's guilt, even though he remembered that his brother had set the fire probably. So he attempted to commit suicide.
Everything I just told you in the last two paragraphs? was a lie.
But Riff believed it.
See, Riffael Raffit is a very special flower. As a child, he recognized that he wouldn't get his way by being the psychopathic, self-serving sadist that he was. So he perfected another "self," one that was polite and kind and loved the world. :) oh, what are you talking about, daddy, of course Clyde was the one who killed the kittens :) I would never do such an awful thing!
…Yeah, it was pretty easy to blame Clyde. Clyde was one of our good old-fashioned hot-tempered and foul-mouthed but good-natured heroes. But he was onto Riff. Ohhhh, was he onto Riff. What he told Riff's fiancee? was the truth. And, more than that, he discovered evidence that Riff had forced someone into committing suicide by taking over his property and leaving him penniless. He showed their parents. Their parents got mad.
Riff had to do something.
So he torched them.
But Clyde, in his last moments of life, raised a gun and shot Riff in the head.
Riff died.
HAPPY END \o/
…Except obviously not, because this took place five years before the Cain Saga begins. See, there's this organization called Delilah, headed by one Alexis Hargreaves. And they happened to be experimenting on how to bring people back to life. So Alexis brought Riff back to life, and, in return, Riff swore his loyalty to Alexis, unf unf unf.
"Help destroy my son :)" Alexis said.
"K, sounds cool to me \o" Riff replied.
And so, the powerful psychic known only as Justice made that other self of Riff's a reality, implanting false memories to perfect the disguise. Riff was able to use this implanted MPD to learn the secrets of Cain's household and report back to Alexis at intervals, gaining the position of Alexis' right-hand man. But his other self? The one that was truly a good person and had become Cain's perfect servant? Had no idea.
WITH ALL THIS IN MIND, it's no wonder that the final few volumes of Godchild are SPECTACULARLY FUCKED UP. Essentially, Riff was set up so that his false self would eventually die, leaving only his original personality, so that he could destroy Cain after living with him in a horribly codependent relationship for years. And this does, in fact, happen.
But…! you say! But he wasn't a horrible bastard in your app! You didn't even mention that. APPING UNDER FALSE PREMISES, SHE'S A WITCH, BURN HER!
And the true reason for this app emerges. Because, after some complicated events involving sleeping with Justice, Justice revives his old personality, letting it lie dormant in his mind as a threat. Riff, having been threatened, promptly kills her and many other people with his bare hands. \o/ But his false personality is still there.
And it awakens, when he tries to kill Cain, and, in an epic showdown of AWESOME involving self-mutilation, his false personality "kills" his true self.
What does this mean for camp? It means his false personality is, as he hadn't previously been, aware of his true self. It means that he's aware his memories are false! …Though he REMEMBERS them as real and may slip up from time to time. It also means that I'm eventually going to be playing with his true self in camp. I admit it; the real reason I apped him was not because he's gay for Cain, but because he's an unrepentant sadist with an unintentional and unwanted fixation on Cain's emotional pain. You may all shun me now.
It also means he's a zombie, and he knows it. Hurr hurr hurr.
Riff on Merry
This is the shortest answer. Riff loev Merry, because Merry is important to Cain and also a small and adorable child. Merry is not unlike a tiny loli extension of Cain. Who gossips about Cain with Riff. Riff loev her lots and will also distract her with cherry cake if you need to have an adult moment.
Riff on Jizz
This… is a complicated one. Because Jiz is SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS and wants to cut Cain's eyeballs out and masturbate to them floating in formaldehyde I WISH I WERE KIDDING ABOUT THAT ONE. But… Jiz also helped Riff. A lot. Multiple times. He's saved Riff's life twice; he gave Riff pills to keep the false personality alive for longer. And he cut his own throat to extend Riff's lifespan. More than that, Cassian clearly cared about Jiz, and Riff can respect that kind of love and devotion. So his feelings towards Jiz are… very complicated.
To some extent, he does want to protect Jiz and keep him out of too much trouble, for Cassian's sake. But he also recognizes that Jiz is a crazed incestuous sadomasochist who fucks internal organs.
