Hellsing for the win!
Before this year, I have only seen some anime. I didn't know much about it. All of that started to change in early december of 2006. I decided to create a MySpace page. It seemed like it was something everyone's doing these days. A few days later, I recieved my first friend request. I remember it was a saturday. I checked out the page and noticed that the person who had sent the request had the same last name as me. My first thought that came to my mind was " that's cool!'. This is when I met Ayumi for the first time. Over those first few month's, She helped me with some stuff and I've helped her out with some of her problems. She even helped me when I was stuck in Final Fantasy 12. In one of my blogs on Myspace ( by the way not as good as the stuff I've written here in my personal opinion), I mentioned the Hugh Jackman film,Van Helsing. In her comment to that blog,Ayumi mentioned that I might like the anime show,Hellsing. A couple of weeks later, I would eventually watch all 13 episodes of the Hellsing anime. I was blown away by how cool it was. I emailed Ayumi telling her that " Hellsing is wicked cool." She also told me about the Hellsing Ultimate OVA series,which is more based on the original manga. I have seen the first three OVAs and let me tell you this : If I said the anime was wicked cool, then the OVAs are on a whole different level of coolness. I will have to think of a word to describe how cool the OVAs are. Yesterday, I recieved my copy of the first volume of the manga in the mail. It's badass! I like how the characters are drawn in this. I am not used to reading right to left but I will adjust. Now I feel like I am truely a fan of Hellsing. I am extemely lucky to find a friend as cool as Ayumi.
And now some info for those who don't know what Hellsing is:
Hellsing is about a secret secret organization located in England whose main porpose is to defend the country from all sorts of undead creatures especially vampires. Armed with various weapons and knowledge of the the undead, The Hellsing Organization has fought a secret war with the undead for centuries. The main character of Hellsing is Alucard, a vampire who is a part of the Hellsing organization. He has lots of interesting powers and wields a pair of pistols. Another character is Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing,the head of Hellsing. She became the leader of Hellsing at the age of 13 when her father ,Sir Arthur Hellsing passed away. Arthur's brother Richard was not happy about this and tried to kill her. Integra managed to run away to the last cell in the sub-basement . Her father had instructed her to go there if she was ever in trouble. Richard caught up to Interga there and shot in the shoulder. The blood from Integra's wound reawakens a corpse in the room which ends up being Alucard. Alucard kills Richard and has served Integra since. In the anime series, The word " Fairbrook " is dropped from Integra's name. Another one of Hellsing's main character's is Seras Victoria. She was once a police officer until Alucard turned her into a vampire after saving her from a vampire dressed like a priest ( or maybe he was a priest, neither the anime,OVA,or manga specify if he was really a priest or posing as one.) Helping Alucard ,Seras,and Integra is Walter. He is a butler but was once a very skilled vampire hunter known as "the angel of death." Over the course of the story, Hellsing faces many foes. Their first big challenge is Father Alexander Anderson. He is a member of the Iscariot Organization,a secret wing of the Vatican charged with getting rid of demons. He uses blessed bayonets and magical barriers to hunt vampires. Unlike Hellsing, Iscariot does not use vampires to hunt demon and considers Hellsing a threat to what Iscariot does. The first meeting between Anderson and Alucard is a cool moment in the manga and the OVA. I don't feel like spoiling it for you so read the first manga or watch the first OVA. After that battle, The next foe for Hellsing is the Millenium group, a group of nazi vampires who plan to take over the world. Unfortunely, they are not mentioned in the anime series because at the time that it is made, only 2 volumes of manga were released. Instead, a new villian was created in the anime called Incognito, a vampire from the dark conitient.
I would suggest to watch the OVAs or read the manga. The anime series was good but somewhat inferior to the OVAs and the manga. The music in the anime is one of it's highlights. I have both soundtrack cds and listen to them a LOT. I should have volume 2 of the manga soon and I plan to order more. The fourth OVA's release date is uncertain because of the fact that Geneon USA no longer exsist. I think it and future OVAs will be released here eventually. In the meantime, Pick up the first 3 OVAs and 8 volumes of manga that are available now.
