On Tuesday, Bungie's final Halo game, Halo Reach, was released for the Xbox 360. The Halo franchise is now the responsibility of Mircosoft's new studio, 343 Industries. The events of this game take place before Halo: Combat Evolved. Players take the role of Noble Six. You can customize the armor and gender of Noble Six. The look you create for your character will appear in the cutscenes and can be also used for multiplayer. Here's what my Noble Six looks like.
Noble Six is a part of a elite group of Spartans called Noble Team. Noble Team is sent to the planet of Reach to investigate a attack in a human colony. They find out that the Covenant have arrived on Reach. Reach is the home of the Spartan Program. There is a lot new stuff added to the overall game. One of the biggest additions are the armor abilities that are available to use in all game modes. There are 6 armor abilities that can be useful in certain situations. The ones I have been using are Sprint and Armor Lock. Sprint gives your character a speed boost and allows you to run for a brief period of time. Armor Lock puts your shield in overdrive and grants you temporary invincibility. The drawback to this ability is that you are stuck in one place during this time. There are other abilities like Jet Packs and Evade. In the campaign, There are some vehicle sections including a space combat section. The campaign can also be played co-operately with friends or complete strangers through Matchmaking. I haven't played a lot of the campaign. I have been playing the Multiplayer and Firefight modes.
Multiplayer in Halo Reach is awesome. There are lot of new game modes. They might be similar to modes in other FPS games but they do still feel like Halo. I haven't tried any of these new modes because I have been sticking to Slayer so far in Multiplayer. There are various variations of Slayer. Elite Slayer is a mode in while all of the players are Elites. Slayer Pro is Slayer but without a mini map to help you find enemies. Slayer DMR is a mode in which all players are equipped with the DMR rifle. I will get around to the new modes eventually.
Firefight is back and better than ever. This mode can be customizable in various ways. There are already custom game settings for Firefight that can help you get achievements. I will not be using those game types. I have been playing a few games with infinite ammo set. It doesn't help me out a lot but it's good not to worry about running out of ammo. There is even a mode of Firefight with all Grunts called Gruntpocalyspe. The Grunt Birthday skull is turned on by default in this mode. It's cool to see confetti fly out of the Grunts. You can purchase Firefight voices of characters from Reach and other Halo games using in game Credits. I am using the voice of Buck from Halo 3: ODST. The voice of Master Chief is the most expensive item in the Armory. There are various pieces of armor that you can buy to customize your Noble Six. As you can see, My character is rocking the ODST helmet. If another Halo game is linked to you gametag, You can have a special nametag that will appear when your name is displayed in multiplayer lobbies. Of course, I'm using the ODST nametag. Here is my Halo Reach service record:
