It's finally 2008. I had to work last night so I missed watching the ball drop on tv. I never understood the whole point of a giant lighted ball dropping on New Years Eve. It seems lame in my opinion. Especially if you are one of those idiots standing outside Time Square wearing those stupid plastic sunglasses that are shaped like the year. I could hear fireworks going off in the distance while I was taking out the trash last night. 2007 was a good year for me but I am glad that it's 2008. I think it will be a year full of new possiblites and challenges. It should be interesting. I am ready for whatever is awaiting me in 2008.
I think I have mention here a few times that I listen to a lot of music. I would say most of the day for me is full of music of some sort. I know it's the digital age in which you can download music and all but I still like going out and actually buying a cd. I like to browse the cd racks at FYE and look thru the cd selection. The prices at FYE are not the lowest but the selection is good and they also have DVD, games, and posters. In fact, I saw a very badass Hellsing wall scroll there on sunday. I might get that soon. Ok... Where was I? Oh, yes Music. On Sunday, I got 2 new cds at FYE. The last cd I perchased was ESP&G so I felt it was about time I got new music. The first cd is the special editon of Killswitch Engage's As Daylight Dies. I have heard a few songs by this band and I thought they were wicked cool. This edition of As Daylight Dies has 4 extra songs ( among them is their cover of Dio's "Holy Diver") and 3 music videos on a extra DVD. I think Killswitch Engage is a cool band and I might have to get their previous cds at a later time. The second cd is :
It's Metallica's S&M cd! I have heard this entire album a while back but never perchased it,until now. In 1999, Metallica performed 2 shows in California with the San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Kamen. Before you go " Rock music and a symphony orchestra don't mix!", just hear me out. Both the orchestra and Metallica sound good together. It adds another dimenion of awesomeness to some of Metallica's hits. S&M is a double album full of great songs including 2 previously unreleased songs. "Master of Puppets" sounds great with a orchestra backing the band. "One" is another song that sounds great on this cd. "Nothing Else Matters" also gets the symphonic treatment. I think it's a great cd that proves that a orchestra backing a rock band can sound awesome. I would say, however, I don't think every band would sound great with a orchestra backing them. Fall Out Boy with a full symphony orchestra would still sound like crap to me.
You may have noticed that I have new icons and have been using them when I post a entry or a comment. I downloaded a bunch of Alucard and Integra icons made by
princessk492 (Thank you
yiyo_chan for helping me figure out the lj user tag thing.) of the Hellsing LJ community. I think they look cool. I even have a few Girlycard icons now! I think I have enough Hellsing icons but a couple of Pip icons would cool to have too. Now, I need to find a few Ergo Proxy icons and I would be set as far as icons goes. This icon I am using right now for this entry is of Integra from the manga.
That puts the wraps on the first entry of the year. It's good that I got it out of the way.
