Don't really know about Borders, but I know at Barnes and Noble business casual was expected at the one my friend worked at.

I would personally go with something a bit less trendy as far as tops go, but I'm a codger. I don't know how professional Borders dress code is, but as cute as that shirt is (where'd ya get it? and do they have it in fat girl sizes?) it doesn't scream professional.

Also, very cute shoes, but can you stand in them for 6-8 hours?

I agree. You might want to wear a dressier shirt until you go and get a feel for what they require of you. And definitely wear comfortable shoes! Trust me, you can walk around the house in those all you want, but you won't find out how uncomfortable they truly are until you're on your feet for hours at a time.

Yeah. Arrgh. I'm really nervous now. I don't know what to wear and my mom will kill me if I try to say she needs to take me shopping again. I went to Borders tonight and I'm almost positive I saw a girl who works there wearing sneakers, and other than that it just seemed like no jeans sorta stuff. But I don't want to take any chances on my first day. I have red polo shirts but I feel like they'd look weird with the black pants and if I wore them with khakis I would feel like I was back at Target. And I have absolutely no idea what to wear for shoes. ksj;fadslf i'm gonna cry.

I have training for my new job Thursday, too!!

Umm when the manager called me to tell me what time to be there I asked him what I should wear and he said a collared shirt and any kind of pants. I think your best bet would be calling the store and asking what the dress code is.

My brother works at borders and he is here so I asked him. He said they usually start you off on the register for about a week and they always put you on a shift with someone who knows what they're doing and they can help you.

As far as the clothes, he said they look fine. But he asked what borders you are working at, as the dress codes vary.

Have you ever worked retail before? If you haven't...listen to the advice on the shoes. Buy a pair of cute flats, then buy the Dr. Scholl's arch support inserts and wear those for a while. Your feet will thank you.

As for the rest of the outfit, all of the Border's around here that would be totally fine, but I'm not sure about in your area. Since your new, you can always get away with it. I'd say wear it. If it's not appropriate your boss will pull you aside and tell you that's not what they expect. Take that opportunity to ask them what EXACTLY they're looking for in terms of clothing.

GOOD LUCK!

Yeah. I'm worrying about the shoes. I've worked retail for three years but just in sneakers, and I sort of expect that they might want no sneakers and I don't know what to wear. Aagghh. Shitfuck. Now I'm flipping out again.

That outfit would be fine at the Borders I work at. Most of the employees dress in very casual clothing[I think it's too casual.] I usually wear a solid t-shirt/polo shirt and dark jeans.
good luck :]
