I like my original author's notes for this one: The little drabble train rides again for the trip to the HMS Hipster Wrenches.
“Do ya, like, expect me to leave ya one day…?”
The question startles Spanner, mostly because he hadn’t heard Julie come in, and it had been as silent as the grave before he did. The boy looks uncharacteristically serious, standing at his door, and Spanner thinks he may have run into Byakuran, judging from that look.
And since Spanner has always been honest, sweetly, brutally so, he answers, “Yes, I do.”
“But I won’t!” Julie counters suddenly, explosively, as if this was an argument that needed such high volume. Spanner is unimpressed, mostly at Byakuran. With regards to Julie, he is mildly concerned.
“It’s a mindset, Julie, a general thing, I’m not thinking about you specifically-“
Julie stalks over to him and pulls him down for a kiss, and Spanner can sense the desperation in it, the confusion, and now, he thinks he is a little mad at Byakuran. He places his hands on the boy’s shoulder and pushes Julie away, gently, but firmly.
“Julie,” he begins, “You’re not leaving me.”
The Simon’s illusionist nods, once, and then again, more decisively, and after a few moments he offers the mechanic an embarrassed smile. Spanner smiles back, assuring and gentle, and makes Julie some tea.
(Later, he makes it a point to annoy Shoichi as he videochats with Byakuran.)
