lots of alyssa family christmas things happening in the past week. went to salem on saturday for a family potluck thing. alyssa got food poisoning from something she ate there. at 4:30 AM that night i woke up to a super loud thud, which turned out to be alyssa fainting in the bathroom. that totally freaked me out. luckily, she didn't have it too bad and it passed by the next day. we are sure it was something she ate at the potluck gathering as her great aunt also was sick with the same symptoms.
there have been two spookies practices in the past week, which is a most welcome thang. we normally practice only once a week, but with our first show coming up this saturday, we're trying to get things TIGHHHHT. we're totally ready to play, and we still have another practice on thursday.
mayhaw sent casey jarman (music editor for the willamette week) our latest demo ("
sears") and he was very enthusiastic about it and should be writing us up this week. people so far really seem to like our three recorded songs. i am super proud of them, and i'm jealous of mayhaw for writing such great songs. i kind of think colin is our secret weapon (just as he was the shaky hands' secret weapon). i also think it's rad that maren is in the band, as i've always kind of figured she'd play bass in a band with me at some point, even as far back as 2002. it's a really fun group of dudes and i am super duper ready to do things with it.
mayhaw and i went to a death songs show last week. it was the first death songs show i'd seen. it was rad to see nick delffs again after months of not. it was at a hole in the wall bar in SE. it was a great set. it was just nick and justin power, but they made lots of noise. after the set, nick told me that the shaky hands are definitely done. not that it's a surprise in least, but it's good to actually get some closure on that. it's too bad, because playing with nick was quite rad. he's an insanely talented guy. it's good to play with people like that.
i am so close to being done with my next digital 7" single. i wanted mayhaw to play bass on the A-side "ctrl+z" but i played some test bass today to see how it would sound with the rest of the finished track and it sounded totally wonky. sonically, it really doesn't work. weird. it just has to be synth bass. but since i'm kinda sorta going for a
washed out kind of feel, i guess it makes sense. it's not really supposed to sound rocky or organic. lame. (the song sounds rad though, despite all that.)
the mercury emailed the shaky hands about "our" top 5 albums of 2011. i totally took advantage of that shit. my list should be on their site soon, and possibly in the paper if they deem my love of coldplay printworthy.
what's a WM3?
