yesterday alyssa, caitlin and i went to eugene to see tristan taormino speak about feminist porn. it was rad. she's great. i've seen several of her talks now and that was the best one. it was slightly weird for me because it was in a big lecture hall at u of o that i had a class or two ten (10!) years ago. i realized i hadn't really been on the campus at all since 2005 when alyssa, maren, mayhaw and i saw tmbg at agate hall. and even then, i didn't see any of the part of the campus we were on yesterday.

i know ten years is kind of a long time, but it doesn't feel like it's been A DECAAAAAADE to me. u of o doesn't feel or seem any different than it did back in 2000-2001. even all the douches we passed on the sidewalks and in the EMU seemed exactly like the douches i saw around 10 years ago. weird. my only regret is that i didn't get to show alyssa and caitlin where i got punched in the face by a little hispanic asshole (right outside carson).

today i started getting real nights set up for mastering. there are still a couple small things to be recorded, but everything is done enough that i can start finalizing stuff. any mastering dude will ask their clients what albums they like as a reference, or have his/her own reference CDs. i was trying to think of really recent albums that i love the sound of, and could only think of sainthood by tegan and sara and let it die by the shakies. i quickly realized sainthood is just too sonically different from what i'm trying to do, but let it die is basically exactly what i'm going for. that album sounds so good, just from a purely recording geek standpoint, not to mention the songs. real nights of course won't sound as good as let it die because i'm not a pro engineer and we're not recording to 2" tape at jackpot studios.

but starting (and mostly finishing) mastering makes the end seem so close with this album. i haven't written anything for months, partly because i need to finish this first (also because i was working on quarks and a shitty christmas album). i have lots of song ideas, and i can't wait to get some new songs going.

i recorded two bumbling fat guy songs today. i don't remember if i've written about this project here yet. after watching lots of reality TV, i realized that bumbling fat guy (or dumb guy) music is high in demand, so i'm going to make a CD of 10 bumbling fat songs for licensing. i'm 100% sure that i will get some money from that. everyone needs bumbling fat guy music. it's possibly the most in-demand incidental music there is. but that's just what i think.

what's a last chance dance?
