We've now made it to Virginia. We didn't really have too much time to stop for 'net traffic, so everything from the last few days will be condensed into this entry.
Day 1
Problems with money transferrence puts our schedule back a few hours. Because of this delay, the one person who didn't flake out on helping us load the truck needs to leave after only about twenty minutes. This means that I end up having to pack the majority of the truck myself, and we're finally underway four hours later than planned. We drive for a little while, then crash at a motel in Osso, Wisconsin.
Day 2
We have a little trouble getting underway in the morning and need to keep on stopping for various reasons. The truck has no CD player and a discman plugged into a pair of computer speakers isn't getting enough volume to be decently audible, so we go out and buy a cheap boom box. This is the day of hellishly long driving and we end up getting around 700-800 miles traveled. Around 11:00 pm somewhere around in Ohio we forego stopping in a Motel 6 and suddenly find a huge stretch of interstate with next to no motels. The only ones actually there are either completely filled or extremely suspicious, forcing us to keep on going. We finally find somewhere to stay around 2:40 am, on the border of West Virginia.
After reading the article about Cracker Barrel in the Onion a few weeks ago, I found it very amusing to actually eat at one.
Day 3 (today)
We sleep in until 9 or so. Because of all the driving we did last night, we only have 300 or so miles for today. At a small family-owned diner I got my first taste for the trip of having no idea what someone was saying due to Southern Twang. Before today everything has been pretty flat and reminicent of driving through Iowa. Now we finally get into the mountains and some pretty scenery. Farmsteads, horses, and small, windy roads up the mountains. Rob (there are some who cal me tim) and Janet (yodaBABE) have gone off to unload the truck with some help, and I get to relax for a while, write this, and play KOL. In a while I'll meet Chris (imp y clellin) and Nancy (juanita cuervo), with whom I'll be staying.
