Interview: "Bryan Fuller: How Pushing Daisies ends-and how it was supposed to end"

May 31, 2009 22:06

I've found this interesting interview, which sheds some light on Fuller's immediate plans for the remaining 9 episodes of the season, and why the series was cancelled in the worst moment possible! He also talks about the comic book, and some things he says makes the comic idea make much more sense than it did before to me.

By the way, now I just ( Read more... )

Good question. I suppose if it's published in the US, all they'll need to do is buy it on any newsstand. But a comic is just too cheap to order by the mail.

Personally I'll be happy enough if someone just scans the pages so I can read them online. I don't need a hard copy.

Well, the comic is not out yet. I supposed it'll be in regular newsstands? Bookstore? Drugstores? It's a very cheap item.

no i know, but for when it is out, i have no idea where to get comics. the book store here has a manga section but doesn't actually sell monthly installments of comic books.

Wouldn't you rather support the comics and ensure that they keep getting published rather than pirating them? Especially with a niche title such as Pushing Daisies, every sale counts. Think of how low ratings killed the TV show... same thing with comic sales ( ... )

Interesting. I was just thinking. Taking the Buffy comics as reference, say each issue is 10 dollars, 12 is $120. Given teh rate of exchange, I'll pay at least twice that in local currency, plus shipping and handling, say another hundred - considering that for each 10-dollar pocket book I order at amazon.com I pay another 10 for shipping, but I could wait until all issues are released and then buy all of them all at once, and I might pay less... How much would that cost me? Honestly I stopped counting after it passed $300... Not to mention that to buy any of that I need an itnernational credit card, and that is costly as well.

In comparison, we pay, what, 39 dollars for the blueray? Taht would get to me for about 100, still a good deal in comparison.

Moral of the story, if they wanted international audeicnes to be able to buy this, they would make it available to us at a fair price. I have no problems in seeking for an affordable alternative.

The Buffy comics are US$2.99 each, not an hyperbolic $10, but that's beside the point. The publisher sets their cover price and that it. Shipping costs, your credit card fees, etc etc - how is that under the publisher's control and/or its fault?

Something smells of self-entitlement here. Why should you or anyone else get someone's hard work for free? How exactly are you supporting the comic where it counts - in circulation numbers, by piracy? If you want to be proactive, email the publisher and ask if they will publish digital comics (Marvel has gone down this route) or if they have international distribution channels outside of the usual N. American comic retail market.

If you're in the UK and want the comic you will be able to get it from Apocalypse Comics when it is released.

So there were originally meant to be 22 episodes in series 2 like a normal American season..? FUCK YOU, ABC! D:

Yeah, it looks that way. And I'm trying to imagine the wonderful surprise those final 9 episodes would have been.

This makes the fact it's been cancelled worse - I thought it was genuinely the end of a season, BUT NO, it was the BLOODY MIDDLE. I thought what would have been the ep 13 cliffhanger was a season 2 to season 3 cliffhanger, not an episode 13 to episode 14 cliffhanger :(

Yep, and the final chapters would be all about Ned and Chuck, the main plot, the core of the show. The last 3 episodes before the final arch would put secondary characters out of the way for thge big finale. Perhaps we'd've seen a real leap forward in the story.

The silver lining is that we might see that in the already famous comic.
