As a quick change of plans on Friday night, we decided to catch
The Scarlet Ending at the Bug Jar. Jill mentioned them once, then I heard them do a live interview on the radio, and I decided that it would really stink if we did not take the opportunity to go see them in such a small venue. They were pretty impressive. Being partial to string instruments, I really enjoyed that they play with piano, cello, and violin. The band that opened for them,
The Narrative, was pretty good, too.
Saturday we were off to CMAC, again, rather last minute decision, to see The New Pornographers and My Morning Jacket. I felt like an arse, because Jill goes, "I wonder what the chances are that Neko Case will be there?" And I was like "DUH, 100%, Neko is part of the New Pornographers." WRONG. Only when she feels like it. :) I did not know that. The last time I saw them, she was there. On all their good tracks you can here her lovely voice, but Saturday = No Neko. Don't get me wrong, love the New Pornographers' music regardless, but when you get used to hearing Neko's voice on all their cd's and then she doesn't show up to the live shows, you MISS it. My Morning Jacket was.... good. I dunno. Jury is still out. There is something about their old classic rock/country thing that frightens me a little bit. There was some kind of tapestry on the stage and I said to Jill after the concert, "I kept thinking it was a confederate flag," and she goes, "ME TOO." Scary.
