Hey guys!
So it's finally started. I've loaded my MP3 player (and NO it's not an freaking IPOD) with all new music for my trip to China. I always do this when I'm about to embark on a long trip, and it always makes me feel nostalgic about the friends I leave behind. Of course that might just be because I have a lot of sappy music on it like Howie Day's "Collide". Check it out. It's really good. Let me go back to my comment about how bad IPODS are. The problem is they are too good. They've in effect monoopolized the MP3 player market, and I can't bring myself to buy one or else I'd be as undistinguishible as those dancing people they have on the IPOD commericials. But I would like to dance like they do.
My feelings are mixed about this trip. On one hand, I'm excited to go to China, meet people, and learn Chinese. But I'll be missing 8 whole weeks of chilling w/ you guys. Plus I'm really nervous about going to a country I've never been to.
Identity Crisis: When I go back to Taiwan and China I have this urge to fit in-to be Chinese. I don't know why but I want to be able to merge back into Chinese society and live like they do. However, I know this will never happen. While I do have black hair and yellowish skin, I wear American clothes and probably speak w/ an American accent. I'd never fit in, and I think that's worse than just being a tourist.
I'm all packed and ready to go. Wish me luck! Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do on the 15 hr plane flight...
