[The SFC turns on, and at first, nothing is seen except for the dark interior of Yomiel's apartment - it's rather empty, except for the view of a shattered coffee table lying on the floor like a wounded animal. Returning back to the way he once was has hit him harder than he thought it would. To have something you've missed for so long taken away ( Read more... )

That was a heinous amount of introduction for such a short and simple question. Sounds like you're the type that likes to listen to themselves talk.

What can I say, I've perfected the art of talking to myself over the years. I have to use it somehow.

You could go into politics with a talent for talk like that. I mean, all talk and no answers. Sounds like one heck of a politician to me.

[A cold laugh.]

Nah, politics isn't for me. I'd rather be behind the line, making the events happen in my favor.

Heh, ain't that the truth.

So humour me. What would your opinion be? You can't convince me you went through all that blabber without having an answer in mind already, dude. As if.

How would I know? I have my opinions, but they're not the truth, are they? What a man thinks isn't what always what it really is.

Doesn't that just lead to asking yourself what truth really is? Is truth really something as simple as mere facts?

One man's truth is another man's lie. Hey, even crazy people have their own truths. And facts, while simple, shouldn't alway be taken for granted. People use facts to lie to people, too.

[Yes. People like him.]

Facts and truths should not be confused with one another. They are pretty different, I'd say. And can you really use a fact to lie? It is nothing more than a piece of information with indisputable proof, right?

Then I return the question back at you: what is truth, then?

Right. But you could use a fact to support a point is completely wrong. Politicians do it all of the time.

Truth? Truth is nothing more than how someone sees the world. heh, and it is rarely true at all. Facts are only the mere building blocks of truth.

Take your funny little story of a dude getting smashed by a meteor. The meteor crash, that's a fact. Everybody can see it. We can prove that it happened. Now all that other stuff about destiny and luck and fate... those are just mere truth. Ways people explains the simple facts before them.

So, truth is just the perception of a single person, huh?

[A slight frown.] That's all well and good, I guess. But what if there's no one there to see it? Does a person have to see something to make a fact about it? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to see it, does it make a sound?

Well, isn't that part of what science is? Simply measurements after the fact? None of us might have seen that tree fall, but we can all see the end results. And from countless of previous experiences, we know it must have made sound.

But remember, science can be wrong, too. The man struck by the meteor might have died from the injection of a poison earlier, not the impact of the meteor. But people seeing it might think the meteor was the culprit.

Bzzzzt, wrong answer. Sorry, you are not a winner.

Science ain't wrong; science ain't nothing but facts put together. And the facts can't be wrong. People just draw conclusions too quickly. If they would've taken the time to examine it just a little, they could've come to the right truth, but oopsy daisy, people are too quick to make up their minds. Such a shame.

Aw, that's too bad.

Then why does science change, if it's based on facts that don't?
