This is to no one in particular...
But if we've become friends over the past four years, maybe it's a good thing you read this.
I realized today that I have the best of intentions when it comes to keeping in touch, but it really isn't all that easy. I hardly talk to or hang out with my best friends from high school. But that doesn't mean they aren't still some of the most important people in my life. It doesn't matter if we haven't talked in days, weeks, months, or seen each other in over a year. No matter how long we go, we still pick up where we left off before. That's why we are best friends. We don't get upset when life gets busy and you feel the need to spend time with the people you are friends with 'right now.' I know I'll be there when you have time, and vice versa. In the grand scheme of life, whether I talk to you today, tomorrow, or next week...it probably doesn't matter.
So, when I spent Tuesday evening on the phone with my best friend who lives in the NEXT BUILDING over but hadn't talked, really talked, to in about two weeks, it's okay. When my other best friend who lives in Berkeley finally called to share with me the fact that he is going to Columbia in the fall for a year long Masters Program and he's known for a while, it's okay too. The point is we talk when we can, but think about each other always.
A lesson for all the people I've become close with over the years: I'll call, I'll email, I'll facebook, I might even write...how often is still to be determined. We might not really talk for a while, and it's okay. You will stay with me, always in my thoughts, wherever I go. I hope the same goes for you. Some of you will still be the first person I call in certain situations, just like now. Same person, different environment.
I guess I'm saying not to take my busy lifestyle or lack of time too personally. I promise you, it's not personal. It's not you, it's me...honestly. I love you guys and want you to know that.
