It snowed all day today, and I do mean all day. I cleaned off my car twice (once to go to work, once to go back home), and still my car had enough snow on it just a few hours later that Dave questioned whether I went to work today (he didn't crawl into bed until 7 am, so he was asleep the entire time I was gone).
Despite all the snow, it was pretty busy at work today. I thought there wouldn't be that many people braving the snow, and at first it was only slightly busier than I had imagined, though that didn't stop me from running around like crazy for most of my shift. First off, something new was being added to the lanes, so there was a guy I was supposed to watch, though I only did that when I had the chance, which meant I didn't get to watch him all that much, really. Once he was done, I learned that he was setting up a system to use a handheld scanner on self-scan, which is something people have been asking for (specifically, people who buy a lot of dog food and kitty litter) for a while, so I'm glad that we finally got something set up.
While most of my running around was the usual stuff, right near the beginning of my shift I had to deal with a kid with a bloody nose. Like, dripping blood all over the floor bloody. Seriously, this kid had to be at least eleven, yet neither I nor his mom could impress upon him the importance of keeping his head tilted back or at the very least to keep holding a paper towel to his nose if he had to lower his head. So she's trying to finish her order and cover his nose, and I'm trying to clean up the floor and cover his nose, neither of us having much luck in either endeavor. So yeah, that was a big mess when all was said and done.
Redbox Kiosk B went down, which I only mention because usually it's Kiosk A that goes down, though when it goes down, it's because the touchscreen stops working. This time, B stopped recognizing DVDs. People could still rent, but had to return their DVDs using A instead. I saw that as equaling a full Kiosk pretty quick, which thoroughly annoys the people who need to return and are told they can't (unless they rent another DVD first), and then they complain to me, and what am I supposed to tell them? So I got the message over to customer service pretty quick, and they called it in right away, because if people aren't complaining to me, they're complaining to them. So a full Kiosk was averted, as Redbox eventually started working on fixing B (from what I noticed on the screen, the camera that reads the DVDs needed new software or something), and it was up and running again before I left.
