Today is my anniversary

So today is Dave and my first wedding anniversary, but since I had to work today, we did our celebrating yesterday, which I had off, by way of an extremely last minute trip to NYC. Seriously, on Thursday evening, we were like, "We should do something cool for our anniversary," and I was suggesting stuff like going to the Bronx Zoo, or the Peabody Museum, or something like that, but Dave was like, "...or we could go to New York."
So we went to New York. Our plan was to get tickets to something at the TKTS booth (since neither of us had a "must see" show, and there were plenty that we both thought looked good), so we went there first thing, only to find that it didn't open until 3 pm. So we went to get some lunch.
Dave wanted to go to Union Square, to scope out where the place we were having dinner (he made a reservation), so we took the subway down there, and then went looking for a good place to eat lunch. We settled on a Japanese place that specialized in ramen, but also had curry rice, which made me very happy :d Then we tried to get to 7th St., but ended up at NYU along the way. Fortunately, the campus had plenty of maps, so we were able to find where 7th St. really was. Unfortunately, once we got to the place where the restaurant should have been, we didn't find anything at all like a restaurant, and none of the surrounding stores had any clue about it. So Dave called Mom and asked her to look up the address for us. Turns out we really needed to go to 17th St. (and that is exactly why we were doing this in the first place, in case something like that happened). So we trekked all the way over there, and found the restaurant with no trouble.
By then it was nearly 3, so we went back to TKTS and stood in line for an hour, but in the end we got tickets to 9 to 5 in the orchestra, so that was pretty good. After that we hung out around Times Square for a little while (and Patrick called me up to get me to come in three hours early the next day), until it was time to head back to Union Square and have dinner. The restaurant was called The House, and the food was pretty good, although I had a two tomato soup that I didn't care for, but I think if it was served warm instead of chilled, I would have liked it. Dave got the wild boar lasagna, but I couldn't tell the difference between it and any other lasagna. It was still pretty good, though.
We had a little time in between dinner and the show, so we went to Book Off. I was only looking for the one missing Mirumo de Pon volume, but they didn't have it. Walking to the Marquis Theater (where we saw The Drowsy Chaperone two years ago), we got a little off course (and Dave refused to believe me when I told him we probably had to go a few more blocks), but we got to the theater with 15 minutes to spare, which was plenty of time to get our seats and read the playbill.
As for the show itself, while it wasn't the most awesome show ever, it was still a lot of fun, with plenty of pleasant songs and jokes we both laughed at. And the actors and actresses were great, really. In fact, after the show, I waited by the stage door (and Dave waited for me a little ways back), which I'd never done before, so that was cool. It took a while for everyone I wanted to see to come out, so by the time we got back to Grand Central, we had to wait like 45 minutes for the next train. Which wasn't really a big deal, except that it was late at night and I'd agreed to come in to work early. But in the end we got back home, and I didn't have any trouble getting up the next morning.

So we just had the top layer of our wedding cake (well, part of it, anyway) as per tradition, and Dave was amazed it still tasted good. I was curious about where the tradition came from, so I looked it up and apparently it originally goes back to the 19th century, when couples used to save the top tier to use as a christening cake, since that usually happened fairly soon after the wedding. So now you know.
