Okay, so my last post was kind of serious, and I've been planning on writing a book review tonight to post here that is also rather serious, so I thought I would include a more light-hearted post in order to balance things out a little bit :o)
I went a little Wii-crazy (Wiizy?) this weekend, and picked up 2 new games (Trauma Centre: Second Opinion and Prince of Persia), as well as an old game from the Virtual Console (Street Fighter II: Hyper Edition). While I haven't had a chance to play too far into any of them yet, I thought I'd post some initial thoughts here.
Prince of Persia is a lot of fun so far, but a bit different than I expected - lots more running, and jumping, and wall-running than I had been led to believe (note that I haven't played any other PoP games before). The control mechanism is interesting (slash the Wiimote down to slash your sword down, basically), but I've found I can't play it for very long - the slashing motion seems more awkward than the motion control in games like Sports and Play that I'm more used to.
Street Fighter is a lot more difficult than I remember it being, but that might be because I'm using a Gamecube controller (the game told me I "need" the classic controller for it). I still suck at doing dragon punches, apparently, but have been able to win a few matches, at least.
Trauma Centre is the one I played most out of the three, and it's ridiculously fun so far. The basic structure of the game is that you're a young surgeon, and you have to use the Wiimote as a scalpel, forceps, and stitches and whatnot in order to complete you're operations. It's all done in this riduculously over-the-top manga style, with melodramatic cutscenes and blast lines between operations, but the game also does a good job of drawing you in to the surgeries you're performing with a combination of vibration feedback, tense music, and on-screen commentary from a nurse while you're performing. It's been pretty challening, but luckily so far it's been "I think I can get it if I try just one more time!" challenging and not "stupid game is too hard!" challenging. :o)
