I have looked for the face of God
At the bottom of a wine glass...
Sip after sip after sip
I have looked for Him
At the top of the hill
With a bottle of vodka under my arm
Drunk off of living
We climbed...
Step after step after step
And I looked for my Lord
Behind the red eyes of my mother, father, sister, brother....
Who have all suffered from insomnia
And who have seen things
Some may never hope to see
I looked beneath the covers,
Behind the couch,
Under the bed...
Beware the monster who sleeps there;
And eats there;
And cries there....
He does not have money
To buy groceries.
I looked for Him
And in all my haste
And in all the places I looked
I did not find Him.
Instead I found things to fear
I passed out on the metamorphic couch
And while we ran down the hill
The wolves ran after
We hid beneath the blankets when we got home
And we could hear the monster beneath us
And perhaps I am still looking...
