List 10 platonic male/female relationships in fiction that you enjoy.
Rules:
1. They interact in canon, preferably in a significant (apply your own interpretation of such) way.
2. They are not related. They can, however, view each other as surrogate family.
3. Neither has confessed or implied romantic love for the other in canon.
4. They have not dated, been married, had sex, or made out in canon, on purpose, and of their own free will.
5. A popular fanon ship is ok (though preferably not your ship) but a canon pairing you wish were just friends is out.
6. Try to avoid using the same character or series twice.
1. Ashes to Ashes, Ray and Alex
I love Ray. Sure he's a seedy, misogynistic moron, but he's got a sentimental streak a mile wide, is loyal to a fault, and does sock puppet shows for rape victims. And Alex, she needs him. She says so. Once they got past their initial mutual resentment, they work brilliantly together.
2. The Middleman, Wendy and The Middleman
Shut up, you know it's true. You wish you had a working relationship this awesome. Though I've read (and recced) a couple of very good WW/MM fics, I do think sex would ruin their awesome siblingly dynamic.
3. Firefly, River and Mal
Everything is better with River. He doesn't treat her like she's broken, he isn't weirded out by the mind reading, she trusts him, it's all good.
4. Scrubs, Elliot and Dr Cox
I love how he pushes her to be better, but she makes him question himself. Also, I love nicknames.
5. Pushing Daisies, Olive and Emerson
If this requires explanation, you have no soul.
6. NCIS, Abby and Tony
When he pretends to be Gibbs, she will always call him on it. She looks after him, he looks after her, they have awesome flirtish banter yet no actual sexual tension.
7. Discworld, Sybil and Nobby
He is the lowest common denominator.
8. L&O: CI, Goren and Eames
For a second there I forgot they weren't actually a canon couple, as they are so made for each other. But this is Law and Order. They're never gonna hook up. In the mean time, awesome partnership of awesomeness.
9. How I Met Your Mother, Barney and Lily
Awwww. I just, I mean, look at them! Awwww! He's a sort of surrogate little brother, and she wants what's best for him, and awwww.
10. The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon and Penny
I know they are a fandom favourite, but I seriously doubt the show will go there. Their snarky interactions, caused by the fact that they live in two completely different universes, are so much fun.
